how close ya think i could put the 400w cmh light from the pots?
I would not put it to close while they are babies. After 2 week you can get it about 1/2-1ft away to start with. They will let you know when you are to close. After 2 weeks I would recommend starting at 1ft and work down if you want. They will let you know if it is to hot. Plants can grow fast at times so I would never have it closer than 6 inches

First off, sucks you're in AUS. Really limits the reputable online dealers and selection. Most stores carry the same shit. Do you have a local hydro store? If not.. I only know of one that's AUS wide and from the two people I know who used it, it's reliable...

What equipment do you currently have? Just a ballast? is it MH/HPS switchable? Is it digital?

This is the device I'm talking about for the lamp, no matter what lamp you use -

http://glandorehydro.com/Cool-Tube-With-Reflector.html - 120AUD

Your currrent box is 120CM high, what's so great about spending 150AUD for 60 more CM? A whole 2 more feet? You really limit options going this route and every other AU grow tent I've found is about 100AUD more for the same size.. what's the catch with that tent? How much is the shipping?

Your budget really restricts you, to make it work you're better off spending the 300AUD on the cooltube and a decent fan to suck it out of the box you currently have, i.e:

http://glandorehydro.com/Centrifugal-Fans-Fans-Direct.html .. What gets me is there's no CFM rating, so you'd have to contact them to get one.

I'm not sure a 300AUD budget really lets you afford a tent right now. You have other essentials you need, exhaust and air circulation is far more important than 2 more feet in the grow room. Your plants will never reach their full height if they shrivel up and die. Which they will do without proper ventilation and cooling.

hey sorry i haven't written back... well all i could find out was my ballast is NOT digital... (so thats a good thing)? all i have is the ballast and 400w hps light and thats about it besides 3 shitty little fans... I was thinking about getting the tent cause i was thinking around the lines of i wont have to grill holes in it etc for fans and shit... so would you recommend a cmh light? a 400w or less? or cool tube? i can pick up some good fans at the local hardware shop for cheap... just gotta know what size and wattage would be best for that??? i got my lighting kit from www.aussieponics.com.au (have a look at that site and tell me what ya think) the only thing is they dont sell cmh lights. i just want fans that i can plug in and not having to re wire it cause it wont work haha.. trust me im not good at that shit and i dont want to run the risk of electrical faults... the brand of my HPS kit is "grow lush", and once again its not digital... so does that mean i can just pop a cmh bulb into it?? and 400w or 250w? does it really matter if i have good ventilation?

yeah i just found out i will be able to run it... ok so now i have on order is a 150mm inline ventilation exhaust fan and a 400w cmh bulb... now does that sound good? will that give me suitable temp? and i will add another fan pushing air out too or ya think the 150mm will be big enough?

another quick question... for the air circulation can i buy another 150mm exhaust fan and turn it around so it blows air in or will that blow too much air in?

you might try to have the air come in from outside the tent through the light fixture then exhausted out of the tent, this method pulls all the heat created by the light out of the tent.you will need some ducting for this.er even flexible hose of the correct diameter will work, and will allow you to raise or lower your light fixture as needed.
then all you need is a small fan just to circulate the air over your plants to create natures breeze and build strong stems .
this works for me.hope it helps you.

im not getting a tent now... just going to stay with my cab... cant i just put the exhaust fan up top close to light and other fans blowing in on the opposite side? run the duct from the exhaust?

I may have missed it, but I haven't heard any mention of the fan's cfm (cu. ft./min.). If you have enough air flow, you may not have to have ducting. In your case, you will need more than the normally recommended rate of displacing the air once every five minutes.

One suggestion (similar to RSV1's): If I were in your situation, I would get an exhaust fan that will displace the air several times per minute. Mount it high in the cabinet. Just use a passive opening for inbound airflow, near the bottom, on the opposite end from the exhaust (make sure the opening is big enough not to hinder air flow). If the room the air flow is coming from is cool, that will make a huge difference. If possible, mount a fan to circulate the air between the plants and the light. I can't say whether it will fully fix what you've got but it will help a lot.
