Think the LPS was about 180 watt. ... Does the color shift with time?
No (I think) the color (probably does not shift with time).
That is actually pretty interesting!!! LPS emits 600nm (red) light better than anything else ever made!!!
Dude, I totally changed my mind: don't sell it:
use the LPS to test to see if it enhances flowering in MJ plants.
First of all: you really have a 180 watt LPS??? No bullshit??? That is a monster. (I gotta wonder who you knew that back in the 1990's was running MH and LPS!!! Surf the 2012 all you want - you ain't never going to find anybody who has what you have)/
In all of the pot internet surfing I have ever done,
I have never before heard of anybody who had in his possession an LPS rig . Not only do you seem to have one, you (claim to) have one of the biggest most fat ass 180 watt bulbs ever made (that's ALOT of POWER dude).
You might be one of those guys who stumbled upon something really fucking cool.
"Blue" light is high energy light and makes MJ plants grow leaves and "fuel" (carbohydrates) for THC (and other plant tissue) manufacture; red light (like your LPS) stimulates MJ to make a hormone that makes MJ flower (and other shit like stems and roots)
According to Wikipedia (and they include a wavelength graph of lps illumination) LPS EMITS 200 LUMENS PER WATT!!!! If that's tru, then that is absofuckinglutely incredible (3x the best LED; 2x the best t5; 30% better than the best HPS). BUT the problem with LPS is that ...
.. ALL (all 200 lumens per watt) of LPSs light is the 600nm (red) wave length. NOTE: the optimum wavelength for growing MJ is four-twenty nanometers -420 nm - by the grace of the God who obviously hath smiled stonily upon His 420 Children when He built the Universe.
if I were you, I would go get some heavy bright ass blue lights - at least 600 watt MH or 300 watts arctinic t5's - and grow the shit out of some feminized MJ seeds, then after six weeks, cut it down to 12/12, and
LEAVE THE MH lights burning (no need for HPS when you got 200 lumens per watt red LPS) but hit the plants with that intense 180 watt, 36000 lumens LPS.
If you want to grow autos (and I would totally do this), I would turn on the LPS - as a supplemental light source - after one month. You should probably tend to the garden by, every few days, turning each plant (kind of like roasting a chicken by turning the bird to cook it evenly) to acheive a consistent exposure to the LPS (red) light.
It seems to me that the intense blue would load the MJ plants up with carbohydrate fuel while all that red light would load them up with flowering hormones ... no?? You would have the best of both worlds.
If you google "LPS marijuana" you will get hits on a bunch of pot internet posts and websites where all these growers WHO HAVEHYPOTHETICAL OPINiONS ABOUT BLAH BLAH BLAH BULLSHIT and have never tried to actually grow weed with an LPS.
But what I know for sure is this: back in the 1980's, before HPS lights were easily available (apparently everybody was using MH), somebody in Northern California was growing TWO HIT KILLER WEED with GLORIOUS FROSTY NUGS like I have not seen since (altho I've seen - and grown - pretty close). Maybe LPS is how they were doing it???
