Grow Mediums Mom's Autocob, Autoflower, Autopot Grow

Moms pocketbook says otherwise. I had fungus gnats once. Damn little pests. I have neem spray handy, and I also spray and clean my tent down with vinegar/tea tree oil every time I move the girls out to vacume. I also have a handy pack of yellow bug stickies here. God I hate those though, they stick to EVERYTHING, LOL.

I take a shower and change my clothes before I go down to the basement, but I live on a wooded lot surrounded by gardens and they are everywhere on my property. It's hard to keep them out of anything. I'm hoping that with the recent cold snap I will be bug free for the rest of the winter but who knows.

I'll warn you now those fuckers LOVE coco. All the sticky traps in the world won't distract them from that stuff. I've got my patented pantie hose bug barrier on my new grow, and if I get them again I'm going to shut off the res until everything dries out and the plants look all wilted, then probably repeat that procedure a week later. My main strategy though is just staying the fuck out of the tent and keeping it zipped whenever I possibly can. :wall:

What about neem oil? Have you tried that? I have some optic foliar product and ordered some neem oil which should arrive any day. Going to mix the two as per optic foliar recipe and go spray. I have mild bug issues and the sticky traps are not working. So am hoping this will.

ah haaaaaaaa.....I think the tubing my grow shop had was 4mm. That .2 makes a big difference! You should have seen me try to get that sucker on. To be a fly on the wall. Then getting it off was even worse. When I broke the connector I swore so bad even my cat ran for cover.
:kitty:

My only solace is that there were no plants in sight. That would have had disaster written ALL over it.

I might get some of this 1/4" soaker hose to try out as replacements for the airdomes. I think I seen in a thread some others were using it.
www.amazon.com/Raindrip-015005T-4-Inch-50-Feet-Porous/dp/B000LNSX82/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1513204606&sr=8-3&keywords=1%2F4%22+soaker+hose
on the airdomes replacing the little pieces that came with it, or as a replacement for them all together? I ordered some of that once as a bubbler for inside my tea bucket. stuff worked great, nice idea.

I mix neem oil, vinegar, and tea tree oil with water and spray the hell out of my tent constantly.

Bugs HATE tea tree oil. You can find it in the vitamin section at walmart. Also great to have in the house for boo-boos and all sorts of things. I used to put it on my kids as a natural bug repellent. (the black flies in my area here in northern mass are viscous!) Figured why not use it against gnats in the tent.

Is there something "safe" we can mix IN the coco to prevent stuff from happening? I would rather be preventative then have to deal with a swarm of the little shits. I have mosquito bits, but I dont want to put them in the coco and hurt my grow at all.

If you put a cup of water in the microwave and heat it. Then you can dip the tubing in the hot water to make it more pliable to push over the connectors. It will cool and be a snug fit.

Yes, just to replace the 4 airline tubes in the airdome.

I will have to ask Optic Foliar about tea tree oil and adding to his product. He does not list it as the choice additive. he says use xx ml of neem oil and add to his spray solution. But neem oil is banned in Canada so it would be worth asking him about tea tree oil. I just got neem oil from amazon.ca that is a health food production which is not banned. Stupid fed government is so hell bent on trying to make it look like they are making agriculture better by banning products, but they allow it for sale in other industries/channels. Yes they are stupid sometimes, but this time I support their stupidity!

I tried neem oil, sm-90 and BT (mosquito bits) in my last grow and the little buggers managed to persist throughout the grow. The problem with fungus gnats is their larva that persist in the soil and eat the roots. Of all the things I tried the physical barrier seemed to work the best. I put garden fabric over all the pots and they couldn't get from one pot to the other. They had already infested one pot really bad before I did this though and they formed a breeding colony under the fabric and I had to quarantine that plant outside lol.

On my current grow I'm starting with a pantie hose barrier to keep them out, hope it works. That and drying out the media is supposed to disrupt the larvae. If I get them again I will not hesitate to turn off the res and let the pots dry out, then do that again in five days or so to get any new ones that hatch. Fuckers :finger:
