Grow Room Micro Auto Adventures with Mr. Sparkle

The one Think Different is done at right around 9 weeks, the other one needs a couple more days but it has has a different structure to it.

Doing my weekly update a bit early as its now the winter season.

:woohoo1:

Bogan: harvested the one Think Different today and the other will be short, So here we just have 6 Nirvana - AK48's on the right, and one dark devil, and the mothers coming back from there harsh trim, and the one Blueberry starting to Re veg, after the AK-48's go to the other cab we will be starting some Seeds from this last auto run and will be running bigger containers, just to change things up and see what we can get yield wise out of this case.

The Think Different that isn't quite done yet, i'll most likely be chopping it Monday

Ashla: The C99's are now starting to smell, if you bump them you get a waft of citrus fruity smell, pretty much have my conclusions on the couple test i was doing with them, topping, pruning, and root size starts at flower. Also the critical Kush is getting close to done, The Purple Kush still needs some time, but i may have mixed them up at start as the Labeled Critical Kush is throwing out some purple colors, and the labeled Purple Kush is not, so im gonna have to hunt some pictures of both in other peoples grows to see which one matches what.

Here's the trifoliate that's just trying to be a bush, the other FJM has some trifolaite like mutations as well

Changes: I'm gonna change the programming of both boxes now to incorporate a 3 sec and 2 sec watering time for Bogan and Ashla respectively when they were at 11 sec and 9 sec, the difference is due to Ashla having more water column pressure on the valve, with that change though i'm gonna reduce the time between soil sensor checks to every Hr compare to every 4 Hrs it was doing before

Just to show here is the section of code for the arduino that i change to reflect those changes.

Code:
const long ssint = 3600000; // interval in milliseconds at which to check soil moisture sensor
const int senset = 740; // Setpoint for soil sensor between 0 wet - 1024 dry
const long valint = 3000; // interval in milliseconds at which to turn on and off water valve after moisture sensor is checked

So it takes roughly 2 weeks to go through 8 Liters in my reservoirs and they can hold a bit over 12 so now that ive actually measured it i know i can more or less leave them unattended for 2.5+ weeks if needed which is nice.

Also sample some of the Dutch Passion - Blueberry today, i will not be keeping it around, flavor was good, smell was a bit odorous, was also quite sticky and potent, but it had a definite stoned narcotic effect which is something i'm not a big fan of, i was off in la la land for awhile and got sucked into a old music video worm hole on youtube for awhile, oh also got around 12 g off the 4 small plants, which is a bit low but again growing to find keepers not for yield at the moment.

As stated i chopped the last Think Different today, this one over powered my old carbon filter and caused the room the box is in to be a bit musky if you know what i mean, the carbon had also settled a bit in movements recently and there was a slight air gap too, but i replaced the old carbon with new carbon anyways, which was way over due at like 7+ months or so of use. She is gonna yeild decently, but hasn't impressed me with her smell or structure so i may sample her once or twice just to confirm, but time to move on.

I'm definitely enjoying the Auto Blueberry, as it has a lot of the characteristics you mentioned of yours, however mine is wicked strong, mostly very mellow and clean without any grogginess afterwards.. I had been tempted to try a TD a while back when a few of the guys/gals on here grew some monsters, but much like yourself, I'm a fan of variety, so to me, I'd rather grow 3 smaller plants, than 1 gigantic one and end up having to either sell or trade the bud after I got tired of it..

Is there a breeder that you seem to fancy over others?? I think for me, Dinafem has always been a great choice, and of the 3 strains of theirs that I've grown, all of them have been potent, relatively accurate from their description in terms of smells and tastes, and the growth is vigorous.. DP is new to me, but I'm happy with their pest/mold resistance and their hardiness..

It was more or less the same for this blueberry, i just seem to always favor or lean towards the clear headed sativa leaning plants more than the stoned indica leaning plants, but wanted to try them anyways as you just never know. As for the TD i just went with it initially as i saw some good grows with it and figured it would be a good starting point to see what autos are capable of, and i can say i'm impressed, but do i like the Think Different's not really but that's just because of the types of plants i favor, and nothing much more than that.

As for specific breeders, most all my experience comes from photoperiod strains, as i just started the autos, but i've found most all the ones i've tried are partially hit or miss, some are just bad, some mediocre, and some have hidden gems, but i partially attribute that to the whole hype culture and having to always have something new to offer to the public, but it doesn't necessarily create well done genetic lines.

For a run down instead of just a blanket try this breeder post, as of recent i've tried Dutch Passion a few time but i'm fine with moving on from them, their auto mazar or the ones i had were just junk, but the orange bud, blueberry, and Think Different's were decent just not my preference or had downsides to me. Sweet Seeds - Dark Devil impressed me enough i'll be trying a couple of their other stains in the future, same thing happened with KC Brains and his Bahia Black Head photoperiod genetics, and due to how nicely priced his seeds are i have a few of his other lines to try out over the next while, i've also been through the following plus a lot i can't remember accurately but 98% of them being photoperiod lines.

Mandala seeds were good, and i still want to try out their Satori and a couple others.
Karma Genetics i've had decent plants from, but their kinda kush/indica heavy now a days.
Female seeds, had some nice plants from them, also some not so good ones "my preference", but my current C99 and Lemon Kush mothers and genetics are from them.
Had success from Nirvana Seeds, Mr Nice, Humboldt seeds, Bomb Seeds, Barney's Farm, G13 seeds to name some but some of them were also hit or miss
Royal Queen Seeds were kinda just generic/average
Auto Seeds also kinda the same
And a bunch i can't remember or ones that i only ever ran a seed or two from, so i can't accurately gauge what they offer, also i typically just made my own seeds from the ones i liked, and found plants in those crossing which suited me well.

In short i guess no i don't really have any breeders that i can say everything they have is "fire" but there is some definite good genetics out there if you go hunting for them, it's hard to wade through the muck and bullshit at times, which kinda brings up the counter point that i believe people should hunt a bit more than they do and should be making their own crosses as buying/acquiring seeds from outside sources is really just a starting point for finding/making those crosses, plants, or genetics that truly are awesome for the individuals who are growing them.

But there i go with another long winded answer... damn lol

seems like you have enough seeds but you should try this with mephistogenetics seeds !

I will, the sour stomper looks interesting, and i'll probably throw that on the list the next time i buy, but i'm gonna burn through a bit more of what i currently have, or recently made before i do that, just to refine things, and get a decent base on what genetics contribute or offer with their own specific elements. Which for me is kinda in that fuzzy logic style state at the moment, not yes and no answers.

So I've got a couple this I wanted to show and maybe this may kinda spark some conversation.. I'm posting this picture to give you an idea that I kinda know what you're saying about breed/pheno hunting as I've done some serious seed orders over the last year and a half and have accumulated quite a bit, although most of them are feminized seeds.. I've got quite a few more auto seeds (those on the right), but also have quite a few photo seeds and some of them are regular and non-feminized.. In all of the years of honoring reefer, one of the few strains that ever stood out to me was GDP; amazing smell, amazing taste, great vigor, incredibly cerebral high for a kush, little-to-no drowse or couch-lock, and it had great duration! So, with that being said, I ordered a bunch of Purple Dream, the Granddaddy cross of their Purple Kush and Blue Dream. I've seen a couple threads of people growing them and the plants look phenomenal with every component you could ask for in a bud.. Anyway, long story short, I'd absolutely love to make an auto version of the GDP I so lovingly adore.. If you've never had GDP, you are definitely missing out, IMO..

Anyway, my quest has lead me to the idea that in the batch of seeds I got, I am almost guaranteed a male seed, therefore, I'm hoping to use that pig to seed up a great purple/sativa-ish auto to try and make a solid auto version.. Now, in my research, I figured I'd try to see if anyone had come up with a way to determine sex simply by looking at the seeds, and I saw a lot of haters, but one video caught my eye. I'm currently running my test of it right now, whereas the seeds that are considered, "female", have the distinct volcano at one end (where the seed attaches to the pod), and the seeds that don't have that same "volcano" shape, are almost smooth or non-indented. I found 2 GDP seeds that had the distinct volcano end, and planted them and are vegging on week 3.. One is definitely more vigorous than the other.. This is the video.. I wish I had more time and space to really test this out, but this may be a suitable test.. The guy discusses some of the odds and probability of it simply just having that shape on the end of the seed versus erroneously having a similar shape but turning out male:

This has become more of a hobby for me, so I'm really starting to get into the more intricate parts of the whole process.. I think if I can get a decent female photo, I will probably attempt cloning at some point..

GDP is one of those strains on my list to try out. Sound like the other reviews of it ive read.

As for the determining the sex of a seed by looks, i believe that's bogus and i see the same picture pop up every now and then, which if it was true you would think would be common knowledge, but I've never tried it myself either so i can't accurately say yes or no to it. But do i believe that you can influence your growing conditions to have a higher likely hood of females or males sure, but i have no real hard evidence as i haven't run 100 of seeds in side by side tests to fully test it, just what i've observed over time, but i've found when your conditions are near optimal that more females do tend to appear, where as when things are running bad or stressed the likely hood is less with leaning to the male side. Now another one of those folk lore things that i remember from a ways back was about Banana Peels creating Ethylene and that causing an influence on having more female plants, totally serious so think of everyone throwing banana peels at the base of there seedling to try to have more females, but with most folk lore there is usually a smidgen of truth in it, as Ethylene is supposedly an element that is used as a hormone in some plants to signal when to flower or seed, such as orchids, but then i think the stoner logic comes into play and we try and correlate that to pot plants, without looking at them on their own accord.

But really you we dont know till the seed is grown out with what we have.
