Mephisto Genetics MCPD_Refugee’s Experiment with DWC and Double Grape

I’m actually going to do it the exact opposite I hang dry all my last run this time I’m brown bagging it!!!

Day 61.

Cruising right along. I did notice the first sign of deficiency this afternoon. Looks to be a Cal/Mag issue. I did a full reservoir change today. I dropped the Mega Crop back down to 3.5 g/gal. I increased the Cal+Mag Pro to 2.0 g/gal. The Bud Explosion and Sweet Candy are still at 1.0 g/gal. and the Hydroguard is still at 2 ml/gal. She’s drinking about 2 to 2.5 liters of fluids per day. I’m trying to keep her reservoir topped off the best I can. Ive been adding 2 liters of 1/4 strength nutrient solution pH’ed to 5.8. I’ve noticed significant pH drift towards the alkaline end of the acceptable range. At the reservoir changes on the weekends, pH is at 5.8. As the week moves on, the pH slowly creeps 0.1 each day until the end of the week at 6.4 or 6.5. I don’t know why this is, but I need to keep an eye on it.

As always, question and comments are welcome. Happy growing everyone.
F@@king Magnificent!!!

In my previous grows, I’ve done a cut, wet trim, cut into golf ball sized nugs and dry in paper bags. This time, however, I THINK I want to do a cut, hang dry and dry trim. She’s just so damn frosty. I wat to try to preserve as much of that as I can. My question to whomever will provide their opinion is: Which method is better and why? Has anyone tried both methods who can tell me the pros and cons of each?
Trim wet, you waste less IMO. Anytime I don't trim good right away, I have to go back and take more off when dry and I hate it. I prefer doing a nice trim and hanging and sometimes Paper bag too. Depends on Humidity. But I don't like hanging the whole plant ever. Takes longer and I don't get a nice trimmed look as much. You still have atleast 4-5 more weeks IMO.

Also, I just started doing my drip stakes with MC and also noticed the pH upswing after monitoring it. I dont have roots bathing in the nutes either, so it must just be MC pH drifts upwards. I am curious why you are topping off with only 1/4 strength nutes? Why not full strength? I set my pH to 6.15 and it went to 6.25 overnight. I will add nutes every other day to the rezwith 5.8pH full strength and let creep up to 6.5 max. Good luck

I was thinking about 30 more days or so.

I might just do a comparison and hang and dry trim 1/3, wet trim and bag 1/3 and wet trim and hang 1/3. I was going to hang individual stems and not the whole plant. I mean I’m crazy but not THAT crazy.

I read on here somewhere in the hydro section...I think it was @Mañ'O'Green...who said that in order to keep PPMs roughly equivalent throughout the week to top off the reservoir with 1/4 strength nutrients. I suppose I should get myself a PPM/EC pen and check it myself just to be sure. But everything seems to be healthy so far, so I haven’t questioned the advice.

I would buy an EC stick, you could be underfeeding it, which will increase your total grow length and decrease your bud density. If your plant is eating the right amount your EC should remain similar daily. If your plantis eating the right amount and you are topping off with 1/4 strength, your EC would drop. I don't get the concept of topping with 1/4 nutes.

In DWC with average conditions in the grow space the plants will use about 25% nutes to 75% water. You can dial this in yourself by carefully measuring the water and PPMs used. The math is not linear but will get you close. Anyhow if you are running a top-off tank (I highly recommend) mixing the water in the top-off to about 25% of the strength of the nutrients you started with in your DWC reservoir, the PPMs in the res will remain constant all week until next change.

Or you can feed them what they eat and top off with full strength. Your EC should remain similar each day. If it only eats 25% nutes your EC would rise. That being said, an EC meter is highly recommend with either methods

OK this is just me and what I have done. I only grow for a limited market and that is for a handful of friends so I am not a fanatic about making each bud "perfect". I like to cut a branch and take off the fan leaves when "wet". I have a line that I hang each branch with a bread tie. I DO NOT like to touch the trichomes AT ALL.

I hang them all for 5-7 days and then when ready I will cut of buds as needed off all the branches. I may leave a stacked bud alone. My major goal is not to disturb the trichomes. I do all of this final "cutting" over a 110 mesh silk screen. This way I can collect the trichomes that fall off during my trimming. I have only tried this method. My goal is not to rub or break the trichomes. I feel the buds are handled too much in a bag.

Wet cutting is way easier than dry. U will loose more dry cutting because its way harder to dry trim the leaves are curled and it has to be handled more, why don't u try a live cutting? Way easier to trim em up. Trim hang full plant let her sit 7 days and jar and keep an eye on em. I've tried multiple ways and the live cut is easier if u ask me . and yea that's my next trim job all live cut believe that lol

You know what I love about AFN? Everyone has their own way of doing things and nobody calls you an idiot for trying your own thing. This question would have inspired a lengthy argument on other sites. Not here. So, thank you for your input everyone.

@Nosias, I think you and I have the same overall goal. I’m thinking these gals will be super frosty when they’re done and I want to try to capture as many trichomes as possible. This is why I was hoping to get away from the bag dry method. I may try your method. I’ll have to go back in your journals and read to see what you’ve done. Thanks, brother.
