Extraction Magical Butter Machine

I think that we have to find out how its made. What kind of oil is used as a base and how the canna is added to it. I know that the vg tincture is seriously concentrated meds. Not sure it works the same but i would think is similar.

I made a batch of tincture using two cups of Everclear and a zip of some HSO Blue Dream that I had. I used this strain because though the plant was a massive producer(~ 7 ounces from one plant in 3 gallon smart pot of soil) it turned out smelling and tasting like almost nothing and had a mild potency, though I'll reserve my judgment on the strain as a whole until I grow it again.

I decarbed the herb(whole buds) at 245F for a hour in my oven using a remote oven probe to make sure it didn't fluctuate much or go out of range. I wrapped it up in aluminum foil so the herb and probe was totally contained.

I took the decarbed bud and added the two cups of Everclear to the Magic Butter machine and set it to 130F for eight hours overnight. I then put it on for an additional two hours at 160F in the morning. It filtered out easily through the included bag into a 1000ml beaker. I had about 420ml of super dark green and slightly brown liquid. I reduced this to about 200ml by submerging the beaker in a pot half full of water and simmering it at roughly 175F. This was enough for 6 and a half 1 ounce amber dropper bottles.

Just tried it, one dropper full(~ 1 ml) at first, then another dropper full 45 minutes later. It seems like two droppers is enough to give me a decent baseline buzz! So, I'm pretty satisfied with this initial run of the MB machine!

How long did you simmer to reduce the tinc?

How was the smell during the mb machine run? Curious if there is a big eth smell.

I simmered it for between and hour and a half and two hours in my makeshift double boiler(a saucepan with two wooden clothespins on the bottom to rest the beaker on, over a gas stove on low) to reduce it from ~420ml to 200ml. I was very careful to keep the temp just around boiling(174F) for ethanol as I was cautious and didn't want to hit it with a bunch of heat after such a long slow roast in the MB machine and waste all my efforts.

I kept the MB in my basement while it was running. It gave off a bit of ethanol smell, but it was not overpowering or immediately present. If someone walked through its general proximity, they very well might go like "hey, what's that smell", but it was pretty mild when you consider the smells from our grows that we manage, lol. The machine itself makes quite a bit of noise though, if stealth is your concern. It has an integral blender piece that runs every few minutes or so throughout the entire cycle.

Oh no, ive made butter several times. It was the eth vapors i was concerned about. I have to run my mb inside, just wanted to be cautious! Did you follow the recipe in the book that came with the machine?

I don't believe the ethanol vapors that the MB machine gave off during the process were a safety concern at any point. I did reduce it in a pot of water over an open gas flame afterwards, so I think that would have been when it would cause problems, if it were to. This is just my personal opinion from my experience though from my first time using the machine. It could very well differ for you depending on your environment, volume, risk tolerance, etc.

I did follow the recipe more or less. The recipe calls for 1/4 to 1 ounce of bud per cup of Everclear with a total of 2-5 cups of Everclear. It said to run it at 130 or 160 for 4-8 hours. So, I took a bit of creative license, lol. I didn't see much reduction in liquid volume after the initial run of 130 for 8 hours, so I left it in for another couple hours at 160. I have that newbie problem of not just following the initial directions, lol.

I will be making a run for sure! I did a vegetable glycerin run once.

You have anything planned for its next use?

I may try another Everclear run using two ounces of bud and two ounces of Everclear and reducing it to one cup(~200 ml). Essentially doubling up on initial run. I have this vision that I'm chasing of a tincture where you can get a solid buzz off one dropper or less. My only concern is that everything(the THC, CBD and "weed stuff") would fall out of suspension at that high of a concentration in ethanol. I think it's most likely doable though.

The other thing I'd like to look into is making a vegetable glycerin/propylene glycol vape liquid that I can put into a standard e-cig vape style tank. Doing a bit of looking to see the best way to go about it, whether that's cooking it in VG in the MB machine and adding PG to get the right consistency or reducing an ethanol run and mixing it with VG after the fact. If I decide to try it, I'll definitely update here on this thread. Finding consistent well documented and tested information is so hard in this realm sometimes.

I'll most likely make some butter or oil of some kind too. I'm not a huge fan of edibles just because of the difficulty in determining dosage and estimating how and when it'll hit you. But obviously, this machine may make that much easier. If I could get to a good ratio to make gummies, I'd be happy. I'm not one for brownies or elaborate edibles preparations. Just get me high easily and I'll eat something tasty afterwards, lol.
