@Hotfire
You should’ve seen it at the shelter. They had this dog run with a bench in so you could hang out with the dog off the leash. It was probably fifty yards from the door of the building he was in.

So, I tell them I want to see him…. The lady gets all nervous and tells me to go wait in that pen, on the bench. So I do.

Little while passes and I start hearing noises…. The door flys open and this lady is trying to drag dude out by the collar and a leash, he has ahold of his end in his mouth and is pulling the opposite direction…. It’s a toss up at this point who’s gonna win… but the people were starting to get mad at him and I was afraid they wouldn’t let me see him…. So I started calling him by whistling. He eventually notices me, and takes off in a dead run with this poor lady trying her damnedest to keep up, to no avail. She let go of the leash, he ran straight to me inside the open gate, licked my hand, then pissed on me. I was like,, “I’ll take him” ……

They couldn’t get him out the door fast enough       :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
I was gonna ask... he must have spotted ol' softie you instantly and got immediate confirmation! ...besides being marked as "his" -

My current pupper was a 2nd chance dog, she'd been returned by a previous couple.

She's high strung. She's 9 years old and still a ball of energy. And you can't turn your back on her inside or she'll shit on the floor.

But she's a good dog.
That’s one thing about the dude…. It took me about a week to house train him…. And he’s never ever had an accident in the house since.

It took like two years before he would walk on a leash reliably well. He would do good, then spaz out and try to take off running, or jump up eye level and push off your chest with all fours. Oh, and he’s a hundred pounds. Fun times :rofl::rofl:

But now he’s perfect…. Even knows left and right commands, walks on a slack leash..

Hey, it’s my reward for quitting drinking three years ago. All the extra money buys a lot of steak. :headbang:

And I mean, it’s steak…. It eats salad. How bad can it be?!?
I'm sold.... please pass the steak sauce!

This one knows she's not supposed to poop in the house. She knows it. So if you are around and watching her, she'll be good.

The second she's alone, its "mark my territory" time.

She's gotten better, like, I can now like let her out of my eye line. I'll bring her out to my office and she'll hang out on her dog bed for a few hours and be good. But if I were to leave the room, I know she's go poop behind the couch instead of scratching the door and asking to be let out.

No shit, I lost around 80 pounds in the first two years after I got him…. Lotsa walks and no booze :headbang::headbang::headbang:

I've been a heavy drinker the last 20 years. At one point I was drinking 3 handles of bourbon a week.

I rarely touch liquor anymore, and I'm down to a six pack or so a night, and I'm not drinking 3 or so nights a week. Working on increasing that.

I'm getting to where the hangover isn't worth the buzz the night before.

He knew to go home with me since I smelled like weed, and steak :rofl::rofl::rofl: he was wild, not dumb :rofl::rofl:
...some wits and people reading skillz are what kept him alive and in decent shape! Small wonder he took one look at you and saw Sanctuary...
