I just use tap though rain barrels are on the to do eventually list

I am in NO WAY an experienced grower, but I heard to use de-chlorinated water with a ph around 6-6.5. That's what I use anyway.

This totally depends on where you live. Rainwater in urban areas is often contaminated with heavy metals
