I don't see much wrong with that mate. id have less 630nm & more 660nm,& 12000k white if I were to choose a custom spectrum, something like this
720nm x 1 deep red
660nm x 8 red
630nm x 3 red
12000k white x 1
460nm x 2 blue
I'm not sure the spectrum difference would cause short plants though mate and the 90* lense shouldn't cause any probs. maybe try going higher than 50cm if you have the head room.:smokebuds:

I don't know doobie... At first I thought the companies we know and love were overpriced and even scamming customer with overpriced products, now I know this is truly the opposite.

I wouldn't trust any Chinese company's claim for spectrum. If its cheap, arrives at your doorstep, fires up and grows a plant, excellent!! No problem there!

But unless you open up the unit and analyse each LED, I wouldn't take their word for it.

When you're a wholesaler and get a bunch if units, say 5000 units, even then the Chinese try to pull a fast one one 'ya, to test your ability to quality control the units. If you spot a non-conformity and get all over them, they wise-up and don't cut corners.

If you're a private individual, I would not trust their ethics at all. A basic round of price-snatching obviously dictates how low cost they are able to produce each unit. Think about that for a minute... For instance, 660nm are way more expensive than 630nm and need a different power requirement. That alone implies seriously different engineering scheme and labour to make it work.

Even if you actually do manage to get the right spectrum, how would you assert to the BIN value of each LED?

The more I know the more respect I have for the likes of GN, HGL, Fero, Lighthouse etc etc who do this quality control for 'ya, give true warranties, customer service, etc.

Forgot to mention that that is why majority of LEDs direct from factories don't have 660, or have very very little. But 660 is the peak for flowering.

If they claim to have 660 and the price is a lot lower than usual, I would seriously hold back.

What do u guys think of this spectrum.getting awfully short plants lately. Supplementing with cool white cfl now.

Short plants rule IMHO,
I love tight node spacing.
Why grow stems?

Almost All the components of a led light are Chinese.
It's all QA & QC.
If you can find a company in china that warrentys an checks quality before shipping, they would be as good as the USA ones.
But half the cost.

That is precisely what I thought. Very true in a democratic accountable society. Unfortunately, China is communist cheap labor/part/copy/scamming/ society. Not to say there aren't true honest folk over there, but being so is almost a direct violation to the party.

When you have big bucks to back up your company's supply chain, are able to visit over there etc... then sure. Otherwise, be careful.
I ordered 2 blackstars, both arrived, 1 was DOA, half the lights were bust... in fact, check post #1 on this very thread!
I complnained, and they immediately sent me another! They certainly do love business and love softening their customers.

I am merely talking of whats under the hood. Just be weary! Buy informed, and not by hype.
Want to avoid all the hassle, quality, spectrum, warranty, etc etc? Go Grownorthern IMHO. Its absolutely not double the price if you compare actual power draw of the units, instead of rated power draw.

Thing you have to take into account

-Actual Power Draw
-Spectrum
-LED BIN rating
-Diffusion Angle
-Optics
-Power Supply quality
-Quality of heatsinks
-Quality of Fans
-Quality of soldering/connectors
-Expandability/Modularity/Ease of maintenance/servicing

... am I missing something? I bet my ass I am, just can't remember right now... :bong:

It may actually look like half the cost right now, but all thing considered it could actually triple the cost come harvest time.

The company I buy from in china has a 3rd party test their spectra.
I like that.....

I think the best is to DIY your own LED.
Cheeper than the Chinese, best parts like the USA ones, and you can fix or modify as needed...

So.... share it with the rest of us!! (or have you already? sorry, just went back a half-dozen pages) :smokebuds:

Would be nice to get like a Bare bones LED case with driver just add lights lol .
