I don't get the LED/Cal mag thing. I've been growing under a number of different LED lights, yet have never had a cal mag problem. Maybe its because I have to run RO water. I add 90-120 ppms of cal/mag to every gallon of water I use. Have done that for years now. Only cal mag problems I ever had were related to PH issues caused by my well water. It may also be related to the fact that I ph ALL my water, got to mix in the cal/mag so why not! My water for soil I ph to 6.7-6.9 after adding cal mag. Just started using coco, I ph that water 5.8-6.0.

Never had a cal mag problem.... then again, maybe its the nutes people are using causing the problem.

I too have always wondered what was the root cause for cal mag problems with LED grow lights. I always seemed to have a few plants every grow under LED have such a problem. I was thinking it's the temperature at the center of the root ball so I checked them and was astonished to find the center root mass was 59f and was grow decent but displayed the cal mag defficaciey so that was one theory I had another one was the amount of UVA and UVB makes so I corrected them according to my own thinking and haven't had a problem since I brought the root temperature up and got a Black Dog LED and haven't had a problem since as to what actually causes it is wish I knew but I made all the changes to my grow style at once so it would be hard to say what fixed it for me.

Hello, just want to chime in here. I was thinking it has something to do with the majority spectrem coming out of the led's.
My old lights, every plant I grew had cal/mag def.
I now have new lights and have not had cal/mag issues at all.
I still use the same nutes as always and this is a dwc grow.
I think my new lights have a darker tint than my old ones.
Just a thought.
Both old and new lights are 3 watt, only difference is I doubled my output.

Primary red/blue fixtures hit chlorophyll a and b and they're required to do more of the workload. Each molecule requires Mg.

Cannabis uses a lot more than 450/660nm, that's why we're seeing such great results with white light cobs.

@TaNg
Hey Bro, sorry to bother you but I'm just wanting to know about your test with 18/6 cycle and if it helped with calmag Def? What cycle would you recommend 20/4 or 18/6? I've changed to platinum LEDs and will be using density calmag pro.

Cheers

I also dont get any problems with calmag with my plants under led.never have done.so dont understand it myself.as i switched from hps.so i know the use of calmag.be good to see some evidence;) happy growing every1;)

I had cal/mag issues soil or hydro under my PlatinumLED P300s using distilled water until I took someone's advice and now make 200-250ppm cal/mag as the base to all my nutrient mixes. That cleared it up for me.

I have a couple questions that I can't find the answers to. Before I read this whole thread, I wanted to put them out there first, in case someone can shed some light and help me out.

1) has anyone noticed a difference in cob, white light, reducing, or increasing the need for cal/mag?

2) what is considered too much cal/mag?

I started with a calcium deficiency in my HBBSS very early, before day 20 I believe. I have upped my doses from 1ml/L to 1.5ml/L and so on, until now, day 31. I gave her 3 ml/L yesterday.
The rusty lower fans have subsided but the middle growth appeared to be indicating mag def. about a week ago. At that point I was giving 2.5ml/L. As stated, I am up to 3ml/L as of yesterday. She has consumed her 2 liter feed in 24 hrs and looks great, aside from, what appears to be, this mag def creeping up to newer growth.
I have yet to read anyone dosing cal/mag this heavy. I have what is considered soft water, according to town records. But even growers with RO have not needed this much!

I am sceptical upping cal/mag at this point and need to try to wrap my head around this. I hope this is a good place for inquiries.

Peace
