So what's the point of the tobacco? Does it make the joint easier to roll? or make the joint smoke more evenly? or what?

Burns easier than just weed and we mostly used it with solid not bud

Yeee, like Wilee said. Most of the ganja available in the uk in the 80s and early 90s was resin so it had to be mixed with tobacco in a spliff. I suppose it’s just carried on from there.
