Indoor Insert catchy journal title here

Ok, as promised I decided to try something a little different with the Blumat setup this time around with the autos in the closet. Back in late winter, I got the idea of leveraging what I've learned with the indoor cannabis growing to do a really nice outdoor pepper container garden setup on the patio. So I picked up a bunch of Eco-felt to make fabric pots out of, a Blumat Maxi kit (the longer Blumat's for bigger pots), and some of their distributed dripper bits and pieces. Anyhow, life happened and for various reasons I ended up putting off the pepper grow for now. Occurred to me yesterday that since I still have all the equipment going unused it might be fun to try it out with some autos.

So, I whipped up a couple larger pots this morning. Was going for maybe a little larger, but ended up with what appears to be somewhere between five and six gallon pots from my rough calculations. I cut a couple little holes down toward the bottom and inserted a Blumat Maxi in each pot from the side. I'm trying to get the ceramic cone portion that actually measures the moisture as close to the center of the pot as possible. Then I ran the dripper line and hooked up three of the drippers on each pot, trying to get even coverage all the way around about halfway between the center and the edges of the pot. Pot got left out in the rain for a while, so were already nicely saturated. I got the adjustments all dialed in to where things are barely dripping for the nicely moist pots right now, and will keep an eye on things and adjust as necessary over the next few days.

The Automazar I grew before and the others I've seen folks grow were some decently sized plants, so I'm hoping that conditions all come together nice for a couple of real monsters. :jointman:

Still getting the new drippers dialed in a little bit, but thinking it should be a nice setup once it's all set and just on autopilot.

Thinking the one on the left is about there. Don't think I'll need to adjust more on this one

The one on the right is still not quite drying out overall the way it should. Keeping an eye on it and dialing 'em back a little more.

Meanwhile, the three photoperiod sprouts in the tent are doing their thing. Not a lot of new growth yet since transplanting a couple days ago, but from this morning's peek it looks like they are starting to go a bit so should be recovering from any shock from the move.

Yep, things definitely starting to move again in the tent. Both the Ghost of LeeRoy's are starting to get taller and stretch out a bit and while the Deep Cheese looks to be keeping a little shorter, it's leaves are starting to be visibly bigger each day now.

Gave everyone their first shot of compost tea last night. Bubbled up a batch of the "new roots formula" tea mix from tlosoils.com and split it between the five plants. Stretching it a bit to get to all five, so brewed it with a gallon and a half of water instead of the standard recipe gallon. Split out about 3/8 gallon and added another 1/8 of filtered water to make 1/2 a gallon of a slightly milder mix that I split between the two autos. Took the remaining roughly 3/4 of a gallon and split it between the three photos.

Quick update on the Automazar's in the closet. They're growing along nicely. After the watering with the compost tea on Friday evening, though, the top of the pots just doesn't seem to be drying out the way I would expect. I dialed the Blumats down a little to see if they might be too high but so far still looking pretty damp on top. It might just be different than what I'm used to with the distributed drippers and the deeper placed carrot. The drippers are dripping slowly enough that I don't think things are turned up too high. But there are three of them versus the single drip I'm used to working with so bound to work a little different. Keeping an eye on things but for now the plants seem to be doing well so not going to change much. I did add a couple more 6" fans in there this morning, so a little more air movement might change up the drying dynamics on the top of the soil.

Day 20ish update:

Well, the Automazar's in the closet started seeing some issues with what I'm pretty sure is over watering. Still trying to get used to the different Blumat setup and think I had 'em opened up waaaay to much. I've dialed 'em down, but then I was also due for the weekly compost tea boost so think I may have contributed with that heavy(ish) hand watering on top of it. I went back and forth on skipping it but in the end decided that the nutrients and the cal/mag supplement were important enough to not skip. If the tea could keep for a few more days I might have held off, but from what I've read the shelf life after bubbling it is not that great.

Anyhow....I dialed the Blumat's back and I'm keeping an eye on it. Going to order some Optic Foliar spray as well, I think, as I've heard that can be good at helping plants that have been through issues.

Meanwhile, the three photoperiod plants in the tent are doing their thing nicely. The Ghost Of LeeRoy's are definitely showing it's tall, stretchy nature. Think I'm going to need to look up the guide I used before for mainlining soon and start getting ready to make the first trims on all three.

The overwatering that hit the one on the left bad last week may have triggered a little early pre-flowering on her. When checking in on them this morning I noticed that a lot of the inner nodes on her are throwing pistils like crazy already. Hasn't even started to stretch yet. The other one that didn't get it as bad is just starting to maybe stretch a little and has yet to show any sex indication, and this one with the pistils is actually a couple days younger (sprouted 2 days after the other).

So not sure if she's just going to flower as is and be super stunted or if with how nicely she's recovered she'll slip back into a more veg mode before starting to flower again. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Went ahead and did the first trim on the photoperiod plants for the mainlining last night. Need to dig out the bamboo stakes today and get one on each of the Ghost of LeeRoy's with how lanky they are, but other than that things seem to be going OK so far.

Before and after shots of 'em...

Spotted the first little pistils on the other Automazar this morning. So both ladies. YAY!!!

They both seem to be doing really well with the Blumat's dialed back. Think the watering might finally be set close to right (knock on wood).

Picked up some handy stakes at the big box hardware store last night. Had to cut them down a little with the hack saw to not be too long, but thinking I'm going to be getting some more. Seem like they'll be really easy to use and move around for this type of project.

Started training on the three mainline photoperiod plants with 'em this evening....
