Hydroponic Heretic
Hi y'all :tiphat:
My ladies are around day 33, and they are starting to smell awesome.
Just in the nick if time, my ventilation equipment will be here sometime in the next few days, so I have been working on the design, and acquiring the materials.
Hopefully some of you who have done this before can let me know how it sounds?
Lighting is about 200 watts of cfl bulbs. 4 are the 40(ish) watt bulbs, half and half on the spectrum, and 4 are the 26 watt (100w eq) bulbs, also half and half. No hood on them.
The Current Box:
My box is 2ftx3ftx4ft (It is actually a little less than that). It is made from 1/2" radiant barrier particle board. It is raised above the floor about 10 inches, and has a hole cut in the bottom that allows the DWC bucket to recess into the bottom and sit below the cabinet(Not all the way through, though; the lip of the bucket sits on the floor of the box). It sits in my Garage, which is not climate controlled. The Garage can get up to, and occasionally above, 100 degrees in the summer. I need to beat the weather in this environment.
The plan is basically this...
The Air Chamber:
I will cut holes in the top of the existing box, trying to place them in such a way as to get PLENTY of air evenly pulling out of the top of the box.
I will build a second box on top of the grow chamber, with a hinged door, and seal it up decent. This upper box will be lined on the inside with carpet for noise reduction.
Inside this upper box is where the fan and carbon filter will be mounted. Planning to suspend them inside the upper chamber with bungees.
4" 190cfm fan (Ventech)
4x12 200cfm Phat Filter
Fan Speed controller
The Intake:
The box backs up to our bedroom closet. The plan is to take a 6" semi-rigid duct, and put it through the wall. I have purchased a 6" vent on which I have installed a very low resistance DIY prefilter. This will be mounted around 2 ft above the bedroom floor inside the house. It will bring air conditioned inside air into the box. The ducting will come through the wall, and turn 90 degrees, and straight into the box. The hole coming through the box will be sealed, and then the duct will turn 90 degrees downward and hang to about 3-4 inches from the floor pointing downward.
I figure that if I dial the fan back to about 100cfm, then I should be exchanging the air in the box roughly every 15 seconds with the climate controlled inside air.
So how does this design sound to you guys? Do you think I am going to be able to keep temps in check? If I end up having issues, I will probably try covering the box with carpet to add some insulation and noise control.
It seems like it will work in my head.. anyone see any flaws in the plan? I want to get this right the first time!
