New Grower Hog's First Grow

Its really just that one plant thats having major problems. The Two Muchachas have a couple spots of brown, but thats on older growth and doesn't seem to be spreading. And the Forum Stomper seems fine as well, at least for now. I've been bottom feeding, probably part of the reason that pot has gotten hydrophobic? Not sure how to handle the flush and yucca as far as that goes, probably shouldn't have switched methods partway through. At least Im learning today, lol. And I don't think it will end up being a serious issue, just a bit of frustration on my end. Thanks again!

If you are bottom feeding don't flush or top feed otherwise you send that salt concentrate back into the root zone and throwing off the pH wven worse. As water evaporates up through the soil, salts are deposited along the way. I don't think is a big deal if the top of the soil is hydrophibic if you are bottom feeding as long as there is moisture in the root zone. Get that pH sorted out first and foremost. And just give plain old pH proper water for a week. There is plenty of stuff in that pot to keep her going for at least 2-3 weeks. Better to under do it right now vs. Over doing and trying to correct mistakes. It's all part of the growing/learning experience

You can flush but you better flush a TON through it and have a good reason for doing it, in my case i had to flush my autopot as i reused the promix and had salt build up, went to the bathroom tub and flushed 23 gallons or so through the top of my 6.6gallon pot which TOOK forever because the promix was hydrophobic from never being watered from the top. Took me about a hour and a 1/2 to do the job, it stopped my lockout issue i was having.

PH is different, I just thought i I'd share my experience and hope others can learn from my mistake. wash your promix/coco after your harvest if you used megacrop like i did, the salts will hurt you about 4-5 weeks into the next grow :smokeit:

@Zeromitch @DDubs @Dankerson
Thanks for the responses guys! As far as the flush, I was just wondering about it for if/when things start to really go haywire. Store didn't have any Yucca Powder, buy i got a bottle of Nectar for the Gods yucca extract. Figure it shouldn't hurt to try it once I get a new ph meter. Until then (Sunday, hopefully) should I water just enough to get them through or just wait? They'll probably be wanting water by tomorrow l, but would probably make it to Sunday.

If you can't pH your water then I would hold off till you can if you're able to.

I've heard good things about the nectar of the gods stuff. Be curious to know what you think of it after you try it out.

yeah i would hold off too unless you know what your tap water ph is like i know mine is 7.8-8.1 you could wing it and give it enough drops to lower it 1.0 down if you remember how many drops gets you down 1 ph per gallon. this is why i would hold off unless you know. :face:

Water out of the tap is 9.2, haven't been using it at all. Been using mostly rainwater sometimes cut with RO. Don't have an accurate ph on this rainwater, but I'm fairly certain on the 7.8 reading I got from a previous rain. Its at 35ppm and the veggies have done well with it. I'll just wait until I get the ph sorted and give yall an update! Happy Friday, hope you guys have a good weekend

Nice i would say wait to be safe unless you want to risk getting a gallon of that mixed ro/rain water and give it 5-10 drops of ph down, shake shake shake and give it to them. i know rain water needs less ph down than ro water where i am anyways, be careful and good luck!

I'm buying a RO system for my birthday next week as i am tired of no rain water here in Texas, this drought is stupid and every walmart i go to has a broken RO machine by the bathrooms, 1 walmart was selling me tap water 300ppm, i told the manager but they don't care they told me they don't manage those ro machines, i said i don't care but you are selling tap water to people trying to not kill fish and grow coral. a good walmart will have 30-50ppm ro water but either way i'm sick of paying them for it, only took me 4 trips to get tired of it and 3 months of no rain to break down and want the damn RO system in my house :crying:

I have a hydrologic micRO-75 and it works great, been using it for 6 months and still at 0ppm out of the tap. Not very expensive either with all the headaches it will solve lol

Thanks for the suggestion bro but ive locked in on one from home depot but i do like how you can take yours anywhere portable style, i can see that being very helpful and useful.

I'm going with this:

I'll get 10% off with my military discount and it will go great with my kitchen sink as we like to make our own drinks and the tap is not so good as we can see.

Day 40: Muchachas. Day 37: Forum Stomper +Strawberry Nuggets x Pink Panama
Update from earlier posts:
Things looks okay. Not seeing any noticeable progression of deficiency. SNxPP looks like it has perked up a little bit. Will probably give them each just a small amount to sunof rainwater to get them through to Sunday when I can get my ph issue figured out. I will add Nectar for the Gods Yucca Extrsct to the watering on Sunday and see how it goes. Thanks for following along, and for all the advice!
