In any case, many new experiments around confirm that the recent new breed of autos are certainly NOT prone to severe stunting due to "normal" stress. So go ahead and do whatever you feel fit to them.
I've seen people almost mutilate autos (lst gone wrong, FIM, super-cropping, multiple-topping, etc) ... And they just jump back into action. Long are the days of flimsy-picky plants.
That being said, autos are light agnostic, so a ticking-bomb from sprout. Do what you have to, just remember there is no turning back (veg vs bloom cycle).
TD is known for being a tough bitch, autoX too but the branches tent to give in to weight (which is excellent!! Check my autoX grow, final dry yield on tonight!)
