As the problem with the MCPCB's dielectric layer was addressed in HS1.1 your new light should be ok since it must be v1.1. if bought on last Dec.

My first one i bought has the issue bought jan 2015, the ones they replace the top covers on for better ventilation , the 2nd one i have is the newer v.1.1 as that was purchased dec 2015. Its the blue that has died in one corner, Daniel has already emailed me props to him for replying on a Sunday, that good service, He said they arrange to pick up and repair, so i am satisfied.

Good news guys! I received the replacement part (new LED module) yesterday and along with the package there was included a whole upgrade kit with secondary insulation materials for the led module and the heatsink. Grow Northern guys did even send me good instructions how to do the replacement since I opted out to do it myself due to my unfortunate security situation. I know you all are interested on the unit and all so I took pictures along the way and thought I would share it with you. This is the steps taken while updating my old HS1 to being HS1.1. (Just didn't get that new backpanel with holes though, so I should say its more like HS1.09

Here we go! Patient on the table.

Opened the top cover. This is amazing to see that there is practically no dust inside after one year of use. Hint of very fine particles of dust but thats all.

Removed the Synjet -heatsink. Below was the graphite interface that was lifted along with the heatsink. This is the copper layer exposed.

Removed the old, broken LED module. The dielectric layer in the MCPCB was assumed to be cracked.
4.JPG

Unbolted the Philips Xitanium driver and the power input casing. Just the frame left there.
5.JPG

Inserted the secondary insulation materials to the bolts that hold the LED module and the heatsink.
6.JPG

Used my hairdryer to apply heat in order to shrink the silicone tubing around the bolts.

After cooling the frame down, inserted the driver, electricity sockets and the cradle for the LED module back to the unit.

New LED module in along with the graphite layer on top of the copper layer:

Enlarging the holes of the Synjet -heatsink with 4mm drill so that the silicone tubing can fit trough.

Intruduced 2x silicone washers for each of the 4 bolts holding the heatsink before inserting the caps.

There! All done. Just the back cover back on and it's ready to rock!

Back on the track! It fired up just normally.

Thank you so much GN for all the help!

Thanks for posting this, very timely unfortunately. I had 1 HS1.1 down this morning, fan is humming, but no more light. I also got a mild electrical shock when I touched the hanging eyes. Suspect your procedure is coming up......Daniel at GN has been mailed.

3 weeks before harvest, so had to press gang a TOPLED into service as replacement........

Great thread @MedGrower , Very informative. I had the same problem happen to me early last year. Daniel had me sorted within 3 days with a brand new updated version of the HS1.0 I have not had any problems with my HS1.1 and i have had it for a while now.

Oh no! I feel you bro! That is exactly how I felt having to go with just one HS1 just when the peak production had started with my CBD Kush. That sounds rather alarming if you got an electrical shock. If there is no light at all I'd suspect the driver itself but I am in no position to make any guesses. Who knows if there is some wiring that got loose and is in contact with the case?

Oh my. So this seems to have been quite frequeant issue with the earlier version, I see. It is really good you got it fixed by GN. Daniel told it takes their technician to do the update in about 5 minutes. LOL it took me more like 50 minutes total!
