On the other hand, more typical, average growers likely do not have pants that each take up a minimum of 4 sq. ft., meaning rather large plants. My plants generally take up an average of 1.5 sq. ft. each, fitting 8-9 in a 12.5 sq. foot tent, and I get average of ≥3 oz/plant or ≥2 oz./square foot. Plants taking up 4 sq. ft. to match this yield would need to yield ≥8 ounces each, which is rare for most growers, something I would definitely not count or plan on unless I've already consistently been getting in that range (which I never have).
Fewer big(ger) plants may not be the best use of your space. Perhaps plant more and you can always cull/remove the slowest/smallest/sickest one(s), if the space is needed. If I can jam 8-9 plants in 12.5 sq. ft., you should be able to easily run 10 or more in 25 sq. ft., double the space (using ≤5 gallon pots), here giving each plant ≤2.5 sq. ft.
