I'd suggest figuring out indoor or out. If indoor, how much space you want to devote to it. Then what style of grow along with how much you want at the end. Then figure a budget of what your willing to spend and how much effort you want to expend. Spent about 325/350 on 1st setup, 2 x MH ts-600s, 2 x 4 tent, exhaust fan with carbon filter. As the 4 plants were auto's I didn't even bother with a timer... Bit airy on the buds but everyone liked it. Too much, hoping I got enuff left to get new grow producing.

Some of us here also have to consider the costly aspects of growing and try to spread the $$.....most have a backup collection of everything...My first lights long ago was several large hps and although I still have'm, the heat is something that must be managed...
My space has gone from 20x30 ft room to 3x4ft....and most sizes in between...they all work according to the amount of lighting....
I now use a combination of cobs and qb for flower and am happy with adjustability...
Since I always have a photo alongside my autos so I run 12/12.....light and environment control are the primary objectives.
