As even a canopy as possible w/ space for the light to penetrate as far as possible ... I try to get about six branches approximately the same height forming the plant ... when one stem starts to stretch I pinch it about an inch below it's tip, sometimes bend it sometimes not ... I'm no botanist but it seems when the light hits a tip it starts to grow longer, when the center stem is pinched it slows the center momentarily while signaling all the side branches that there is a possibility that they could become dominant so they all try to grow the tallest ... watched daily it can be fascinating ...

I lift the leaves for 4-6 hrs at a time ... if the lifted leaves look OK the next day then you can lift them again ... otherwise every couple days works to ... this briefly stops the center from growing but if done gently it only stops the lifted portion for a few hours longer than the leaves were lifted for ...
