Also the Photo Battle room can also be a voting place where fellow AFN peeps get to vote by liking photos and when the battle ends so does the voting, sorta killing 2 birds with 1 stone.I know there's a way to tally the likes and keep them hidden till battles end. IMO this gives every plant a change to win because it's judged by more how it has grown than just the end result. I mean big plants always rock and will likely win most battles but this is a growers battle and some peeps my vote for the plant and grower who's made the best recovery from a mishap.

While I understand, only too well as I need to get all my stats, the comment about the chatter, I think it is almost the most important part within reason. I love giving and getting “attaboys(girls)” about my grows and every ones grows. I like the mild competitive nature of some of the taunts. Plus I think it drives traffic and views to threads. That is what we are about, sharing and careing, but that doesn’t happen without the traffic that the vendors want to see.

Agree I love those things also. I would like to see more vendor participation in the battles it is their beans being grown. Really to me I'll join in the battles regardless just for the fact I LOVE and seeing others grows this is what it's all about for me having fun and learning

Live stoners is a great way to drive traffic to a new growers journals this what I did



Again Live stoners, IMO the best place on the site.

Battles well I'm a newbie and the main reason for joining was to learn and make friends with fellow growers.
Maybe a picture only thread say like Mephisto Photo Battle Room set where only photos and likes are allowed no comments and then a battle discussion room where the growers from all battles go to share whats going with the grows and AFN fellow members can also interact and this way we would have all the battle chatter in 1 thread and call it Battle room discussion thread sorta like live stoners . If I were to see a great looking or even a jacked up plant in the photo room I would be inclined to go over to the battle discussion room to see what was going on with that plant and what the grower was doing or not doing

The first post carrying ALL information is being worked on....it is the easiest way for you and us..



We can't..you can do what you like if you are running it.....

Another reason we need to be run the Battles in selected legs is to co-ordinate all the polls..badges..polls..ranks..titles..prizes...points.

It is a Massive co-ordination job for us...and I can't have them coming in at all different dates..or.they Will get forgotten in the rush.

We Learned that last year...people..battles and prizes go tlost.

We finish the thread..shut it..co-ordinate the prizes..ranks..prizes..points in everyone of the battles..we Know we have everyone covered.

It is a Massive work load for all the staff involved..I need it consistant.....to Try to get it Right.

2017..we had 1 full Grower of the year Battle..2018..we have 10 up to now...
2019 if it went at the same rate would be 100..

I need the Finish date consistancy to cover it.

But..that is what Staff can cover... [HASHTAG]#memberpower[/HASHTAG] says You can set up whatever you are prepared to run...

I'm just entering my 2nd year as grower and member of AFN -- but I immediately became a Grow Battle junkie. These events are so, so instructive and helpful. I've seen a lot of evolution in the mode and procedures of these Battles -- and all of it has been good. So while "changes" can be frustrating at times, they're necessary to making improvements. Keep it up. Keep it thorough. And keep it simple. Not always an easy task.

Having page 1 contain ALL of the rules is a must, especially when additional rules or clarifications are made during the Grow itself. I also love it when page 1 maintains a list of the contestants (preferribly in alphabetical order). Current Solo Cup and Royal Queen contests are good examples of this.

One suggestion is that we have (and I know it would be an evolving thing) a TEMPLATE for the page 1 rules -- so that all the relevant info is presented in a consistent and easy to absorb manner. It would also serve to prompt those running the GrowBattles to be aware of what needs to be determined and posted. Data points that could be in the template include:

Dates: Official start and end, pre-start germ period, final plant selection date
Moderator / administrator: who gets tagged with updates
Seed Type/Breeder/Strain
Medium: any constraints/requirements about the type of soil, hydro, coco, etc
Container: any constraints/requirements about pot type or size, root mass, etc
Light: any constraints/requirements about the type of lights used
Entry Procedure & Identification: Requirements about labeling the initial photo (seed drop) with codes, names, etc
Final Picture Procedure: Requirements about labeling, codes, and what the final photo must show
Prizes: if and when known, state what can be expected, and who gets qualified (win, place & show, or just 1st place, etc)
Badges: if and when known, state if a Badge will be available (and is it for all participants or only those that complete the grow with a final pic).
FAQs: here the moderator could copy-&-paste (or just link to the relevant page) any important questions/answers that expand upon or clarify the rules and what's allowed.

Thank you. Even though I am not much of a joiner I find it hard to sit on the sidelines. I was a network Admin for 20 years and shepherding users was 24/7/365 task. I often had to spot their problems even before they knew they had them.

I Love the Buzz of Battle..I grew up in a competitive grower culture..flowers/veggies/LEEKS..nothing beats it for getting Everyone Involved...from Noob to Professional grower..all on a level battlefield.

So while "changes" can be frustrating at times, they're necessary to making improvements. Keep it up. Keep it thorough. And keep it simple. Not always an easy task.

Last year we had to be Reactive to the deluge and we lost the plot at times..we were just overwhelmed.

But we like to try to live and learn from our mistakes.
This year we have a Simple set of Rules in for all Battles to try to counter the problems we experienced 2017.

I'd Like to Run with these for 2018..however imperfect..just to give the med users a period of settling in.

As we Hit problems 2018..I'll save any Rule changes for the 2019 Battles.....not disrupt 2018.

Yup..we Know. If we have a Team Leader go down..it make it Much Easier for us to pick up the threads and complete them.

Let me say Relevant....But...that is a Lot of data to keep track of....so what I would Like to do...is work a system out with the Team Test threads in Level1 Secret Mission section for 2018...and work out a blue print/template for ALL battles 2019.. ...tried and tested

For Most growers it is the Live 24 hour chat that makes the Battles...when members sign on to [HASHTAG]#afn[/HASHTAG] they want to Talk..not post in an empty grow diary and wait 3 days to see if they get a reply.. Battles are Live growing..
you can talk about your girls..brag when they are going well and get almost Instant Help and Support when things don't....but we'll look at getting the weekly update no chat post done..see if it Helps....

Yeah.....I would coz here on AFN if you bring a time consuming suggestion In....you get Landed with it.

Believe me.I have 100 thousand ideas to make AFN Better for all of us...but not the time or the staff to tackle them......

If I can get [HASHTAG]#memberpower[/HASHTAG] handling the day to day running of AFN....it frees up the staff to get the Improvements done...which benefits us all..
