Indoor GreenBean's Grows

Day 31 for Mendel. She now appears to be on pace. A little more canopy stretching. A little more lower canopy defoliation. As well as some more interior leaf removal. Her stalk base is a little thinner than I’m used to. So tonight’s feed included some silica. Her lil fuzz balls are becoming more apparent. Still some lower defoliation to do. But I’ll generally do that a little at a time. Right now I’m just opening the canopy up to get some of those lower bud sites up in the air more. Picking off anything that’s blocking sites, and getting some airflow around the base.

If you think Walter looks like a really bad mens wig, I couldn’t blame you. Some of her old fans were so big they were sitting in the dirt, so I’m randomly picking them off in no specific order. And combing them down (get it? Bad wig?) to expose the interior to the light. Strange one. They say she should go longer, and at this stage, sure seems like she will. Let’s see what happens. Day 21 and I still need to clean up the wires.

Bumped up the feed strength on the Floraflex V1&2 to 4g each per gallon today. I should measure my EC. Not like it’ll change much, just for observation purposes. But that’s as hard as I’ll push. Anyway, Day 32 for Mendel Piña Kaleidoscope. Just trying to push her as she heads off to stretch. She’s gaining height. Starting to take on a nice form.

Walter looks a little less like a bad toupee today. She may not have liked that topping last week. Seems like she took a bit to recover. Picking those hand size fans off a little seems to have helped her get a little more vertical. Just have to keep tucking the others fat fans so her fruit sites get light. In hindsight, I would still have topped her. I just may have waited a full 21 days to let her get a little taller first. Rather than pinching off that fifth node as soon as it was big enough to grab. It is what it is, always an opportunity to learn. So let’s see what happens.

Sometimes they're on their own schedule. Even though we think they are on an auto flower schedule sometime they don't know that. Just had a few like that myself.

Day 34 for Mendel. She’s still going vertical and the canopy is widening. I defoliate here and there and she’s seemingly replacing every leaf I pick with like 3 more. Cotton balls are forming. I’m thinking sometime next week she’ll probably go to B nutes and get a decent defoliation. Give or take. I’m just waiting for her stretch to slow down. I’ve seen faster and more drastic stretching from other plants. But she gained about 4” in height since Tuesday.

Walter at day 24. Oh Walter…she’s not showing any signs of sex. Canopy is short, tight and level. Signs that she’s gonna take off. But I just dunno yet. If you recall, the first two seeds I tried didn’t pop. That hadn’t happened to me in a long time. So Walter and I have a rocky start to our relationship. Likely it’s me, not her. She either pumps up and surprises me, or I run her again. Let’s see what happens.

Man this is similar to how my purple and strawberry nuggets went, except harder to deal with. Just dial the light back maybe and hope she stretches further, or just make it easy and top it to expose all those branches. I wish I did that with my nuggets strains and jammy Dodgers

EDit: just noticed she’s 34 days in, too late to top no doubt. Her nodes are still pretty exposed so they should grow outwards still and should be ok. Short strains can still yield a lot. I yielded around 32g from like 5 semi small buds on purple nuggets. Still decent amount of her left that I’m lettin finish up before chopping

I did top her, though I do top everything. But this is the first time in a very long time that I’ve had a plant not rebound from a topping almost immediately. She’s been pouting for a week. Up until then, she seemed to be one of my “normal grows”. Actually was more impressive than Mendel.

She’s about 24” or so from the light at around 500 ish PPFD. It’s a delicate balance because Mendel needs more light. But it’s achievable since Mendel is much taller.

I always top at the fifth or sixth node as soon as the node is big enough for me to get my fingers in there easily to pinch it off. I prefer to do it sooner rather than later. Think Mendel got her top around day 18, and Mephisto around 17. As mentioned, I think I should have let Mephisto get a little taller and topped around day 21ish. If this one is a dud grow, I’ll just have to try again.

Walter is 24 days old. But as mentioned topped about a week ago.

EDIT - yes, topped a week ago. I guess I’m living in a time warp. A week ago isn’t long and plenty of time to go. I’m expecting Walt to go closer to 100 days if I had to guess. Just not accustomed to a week long recovery to a topping.

My Mephisto plants went well over 100 days bro, sucks. Purple nuggets is 117 days old right now and still going. She was real right though so a lot of her buds underneath weren’t getting enough light. I’ve made sure that my fastbuds banana purple punch won’t have issues like that. We live, we learn. I’ve already learned a bucket load just going over this current grow journal. But mind you, one of them hermied (3Wok) but she is still “decent” smoke. The bag appeal and density is great on all my Mephisto strains. Not major hitters but that could be down to hermie, and environmental factors as my environment is never stable. I’ve never had any plant finish in less than 90 days I believe. I think my stardawg by fastbuds could have went a while longer too, but she was good smoke and a breeze to grow. Leaf tucked her all the way as I had no space to LST and she still produced 6oz. If I left her to go longer she’d have ripened better and put some more weight on I reckon. I’ve only ever topped plants twice, when I used soil. I think the more grows us growers do, the better we get. I’ve just got to the stage where I know exactly what to do depending on the plants structure. Should it be topped, should it be lstd and so on. I’ve been following your grows for a while now, so I’m certain you will produce a solid plant. What you did with strawberry nuggets was insane considering she’s a birch to grow

Yeah I’ve been doing it awhile and am usually pretty good at observing and manipulating my plants. Seeing how hard I can push them to produce more like my photo grows. Within reason of course. Probably not going to get a 12 foot auto!

I try to find a repeatable process with autos that will give me the results I desire. It generally works, but sometimes there’s something that can go sideways. But that’s part of the challenge that I enjoy over growing a photo.

We’ll see what happens. Either way, it’s a learning journey.
