Thanks guys!! It was a good feeling, waking up and seeing the cancer hadn't spread and that the plant is actually producing new growth!! The AKRs came free from Herbie's, and I have seen a few people on different forums grow them, and I think briman was the one who sorta shifted my thinking towards it because I love Kush, and it's a relatively hearty strain with great smoke reports!!
Chester: I think soil is much more hectic than hydro!! lol Mostly because if you have a problem in the soil, it takes days to work out, versus hydro, I can make the changes on the fly and see improvements or problems much sooner.. I think the other part of soil, is that there are 1,000,000 brands, mixes, amendments, etc... that while I was reading through on another forum, this guy who is beyond legendary over there sent me links to his grow Blogs, and got me thinking rockwool, and the method he developed is a combination of Ebb-and-Flow, DWC and pretty much any other form of hydro.. It's extremely care-free when you have it set-up correctly (like I did on my last grow) as it waters itself once a day for 15min, and then hangs out under the lights, soaking it up!!
Rockwool's got all of the best properties of both soil-less and soil mixes since it is EXTREMELY hard to over water, hold nutes, doesn't harm roots during transplants, is pH-inert if soaked properly, and produces a pretty mean root-ball! I seriously want to try every method, mostly for the edification, but I think my "meat-and-potatoes" grows will stay with rockwool!!
The hardest learning curve I've seen with folks and most hydro set-ups is a toss up between reservoir temps and knowing how to measure out your nutes.. I've always been into science, and even though I'm in my mid-30's, I'm in college full time, and have been able to swipe things like pipettes and small beakers that make measuring waaaaaaay more precise!! Unfortunately, the cost of the additional stuff for hydro also makes it a bit prohibitive, but if I did a soil grow in my 2x3x5 tent, I could put the pots on the floor, instead of up on a res, and grow some much taller/fatter plants, but I'm still going to see what I can do with what I have for now!! Next summer will bode an outdoor grow as well, so I'm trying to immerse myself in this hobby!!!!
