Flushing vs. Flushing

I don't neccssarily disagree on that point, I just think that in this case there needs to continue to be education that there is a "final flush" or "cleanse" and that the two are interchangeable in usage.

I'm a nut case about education- that the real deal here- as far as my POV is concerned.

I think usin the term "cleanse" as part of an explanation of a final flush and in conjunction with ot is absolutely on point-

The issue with developing our own lexicon here, however- is that we are a small part of a much larger community- and as such- if we condition new growers to our own specific terminology- without insuring they know how it relates to the terms used by the gardening (and I mean that in all it's forms) community at large- we are not actually clarifying anything for them- we are only transferring their confusion to other venues.... And instead of answerin questions with "complete answers" we are- out of convenience- providing answers that only make sense in the context of this forum- and aren't as helpful or in some cases at all helpful when viewed in the light of the bigger picture.

I agree however that "cleansing" is in fact a very good description of the purpose of a final flush, and is also another good term for that process.

Hahaha.

And I to understand your point and I also agree with you but this type of thing seems very common in English language to me which is why we add new words and meanings to the dictionary here on a regular basis I guess words evolve like we do:D

Absolutely. Also we have the issues of an English forum- with many users whose first language isn't English- and as lost as I would be on a Dutch forum- or to a lesser extent a Spanish forum, relying on the questionable translation programs available, and my high school Spanish skills - i can see how it could get quite confusing for some users- new to the hobby or not...

But then- this is why I advocate teaching the multiple meanings of some of these terms- rather than just saying "we will use this term for one thing and this term for another- regardless of what is accepted in the industry/ hobby"

So while I think using "cleansing" in conjunction with the more widely accepted/ commonplace "flush" or "final flush" is an excellent way of teaching the differences and nuances of the two- just replacing one term with the other isn't a very valid teaching method, and is geared more toward the convenience of those "in the know" than the education of the noob, or those less well versed in the English language.

Rest assured- I'm all on board with using the terminology suggested- I'm jus not with the idea that we discard the conventional meaning of a term for the sake of fad, fashion, or convenience.

Really- I'm on board with better communication, better education, and reducing confusion among readers/users of the forum-

And I believe muddy is as well- and in that spirit I will strive to insure that my posts have a measure of clarity and are thoughtful enough that they answer more questions than they create

And I will also strive to read others answers to my own questions- for content and context- rather than just firing of another question without thinking through the answers provided by fellow forum members.

I hope this series of posts doesn't read as argumentative or critiCal- it certainly isn't either one.

:smokebuds:Maybe we can take this time to make a glossary of words for the site, just for that reason Coolbreeze:smokebuds: , if its something you would be interested GoooAuto, i would imagine that there would be lots and lots of rep points involved , and i know for sure i would have it book marked ....iam always stunk trying to understand all the terms poeple use today and like you said we have brothers from all over the world let me know what you think.... p.s now i have to watch my grammar CUS the teacher is in the room.... Hop digityp.e.a.c.e

Hahahaha. Uh- I type from an iPhone- so I've got all kinds of cra cra spelling and grammatical errors....

That sounds like a cool project. I'm think I may start a little and then pass it along to the higher level- see what they think- and what they want to add or take away. Good idea...

just rep you up to my max:slap: thanks my friend

Maybe so, but where is it written that we can't change things? Look around here and you'll see how AFN has changed many terms and notions concerning auto flowering plants. When to harvest is a good example. The conventional wisdom was always to harvest based on the percentage of amber trichomes. But some auto strains don't amber so that doesn't work for autos. Now we recommend harvesting by the state of the leaves, which has become a reliable and accepted method. Just because something has become commonly accepted doesn't mean it's right. I'm all for changing anything that will make it easier for our growers and help to avoid confusion.

I think its a bit presumptuous to try to change the commonly accepted terminology

Nowhere is that written.

However- a stoner walks into a hydro shop and says "I need to do a cleanse now, what should I use"

The ever helpful staff says "here try this" an hands him a bottle of super mega ultra clean- and says "make sure you use plenty of water with this"
Stoner says- "huh- no shit? I've never used this like that before- wow" and proceeds to administer a big old dose of diuretic/ laxative to his plants. Does it mess them up? I dunno, but it doesn't likely accomplish his goal either...

That is the scenario that immediately popped into my head when you started talking about cleansing. Now, the savvy grower wouldn't ever make such a mistake- but then, that's not who we are talking about either. Instead of clarifying things we have...

Muddied the waters- hahaha

I couldn't resist that. Haha. Anyways- a glossary of common terms would be potentially helpful for the new grower and the grower whose native language is other than English alike- so, ill work on something and pm it to you for y'all to do with as you like. If it seems helpful, you can put it somewhere- if not, you can dismiss it. Or, if the interest isn't there... Let me know now before I undertake a task far beyond what a cellphone is really designed for... Hahahaha

Thanks muddy. I had assumed "flushing" was what i was to do last 2 weeks. I like how you used cleanse. Made it alot clearer for me. Ive only done a cpl grows so maybe doing a cleanse instead of flush i will notice a difference.
