New Grower First time grower seeking wisdom

5 feet would be my minimum height ... this leaves room for about a 30" plant ... my walls are generally within an inch or two of my plants once they are grown ... I use reflective panels to section off space ... if you can afford mylar and have help putting it up that's the route to take ... otherwise tin foil shiny side out works for me ... depending on your budget a grow tent might be cheaper than putting up walls ... I don't use one because I'm cheap and I had a bad experience once w/ a zipper ...

Most of us plant the seed directly into the pot it will be grown in so there's no real need for a germination space ... I grow 3 plants in a 5x2 closet .... when I was new to autos I grew six plants in that space ... that space reliably produces 12 oz every 3 months using 500-600 watts of a quality LED ... there are growers that can do a lot better.

If you've got plenty of height consider using it ... I'd love to grow a plant once that wasn't sitting on the floor ... what are the winter temperatures in your area ?

Excellent info as always.

About 36 degrees F. is average for winter temps, but we can dip below zero and stay there for up to a week at a time- albeit rarely.

I'm bouncing my light budget against the 2x4 and 4x4 spaces right now- trying to see what I can accomplish and reading up on Co2, humidity, and ventilation

Started looking at pots too.
Anyone use those woven shopping bags?
That's interesting as I have one in my hand looking at it...

Also looked at that DIY section on make your own smartpots, that's a can do as well.

No need for CO2 ... is either space in an unheated building ? If so you'll need heat ... pot likes 60* to 80* ... lights add 5-10 degrees to your space ... humidity and ventilation are like CO2 ... no real need to worry about them for a few grows ... the shopping bags are usable ... you might want to search a few grows and see if any have been used successfully ...

One is a unheated building, the other is inside, but in a drafty old farmhouse with wood-burn heat.
On both I plan on insulating well during the builds, and using a thermostat to regulate the temp with small space heaters- I'm fairly handy with a torque wrench (hah-hah).
Once I start putting them together I'll start snapping pics for my actual logs.

We're finishing a very nicely put together outbuilding as a "man cave" with a goodie cave walled off in the back so eventually it'll be fully heated/AC till then the best we can pull off.

It'll evolve and grow as my experience allows I hope
