Mephisto Genetics First run LOS, featuring Ripley's, Fugue, and Creme Stomper

Another tool you might consider, I have one in dmy 3 Bears Pot - once in it stays for grow, $60 ... moisture meter .... moisture levels are important you want constant 100-120 millibar range wwhich is slightly above what they call field capacity at 80 millibars ... KIS is sold out but I seen an the jungle giant as well and other shops ....

Good luck bro, excited for you!

Cool Beans Brother - All Good ...... the pics I attached are both in seven gallons as is gold Glue so I have got three in seven gallon or about 22 quarts of soil and rest mulch and drainage, which is generous, I used porous lava and got broken bag at box store for $1 and broke into smaller pieces - anyways you’ll be fine with 7 gallons, just allow room for compost and amendments on top .... out of the gate you’ll add thin layer compost, top dressings I do two different with Gro-Kashi being one, go to Gro-Kashi.com and buy direct, two bags $40 shipped or amazon for $25 or something like that .... the other amendment I use at start is Craft Blend available at buildasoil ..... then compost from worm bin or high quality compost from buildasoil or KIS Organics then straw mulch over that .... water in each ingredient as you go, LIGHTLY with. with SPRAY .... dampen everything but not too much ..... as time passes I continue adding small amounts of amendments, like plastic spoons full couple sprinkled and more compost from bin, worms and straw ..... rinse repeat and get even more specialized with the amendments ...... you gotta have some EM1 and mammoth p to activate those micro guys, you want life under that mulch .....

You’ll continue to lightly spray the mulch for weeks on end, constantly until one day the plants roots will demand more than what the spray is providing ..... this whole water thing is oh so important- you cannot do cycle watering where soil, dries, you’ll kill the soil ..... I know this is lengthy but to make it simpler, think about keeping the worms alive, you wouldn’t let the soil dry on them .....

There are auto water systems you can use and SIP Comtainers, which I may go to entirely next grow, eliminates soil bug issues with SIPs and they maintain just right amount of moisture all the time .....

From looks of the 3 Bears OG 60 days old in 7 gal I see for sure 90+ Cured as she sits but still 9-12 days remain .... @Organic Sinse says if you can’t get four oz from something is wrong so with 3 Bears I expect that 115-125 range .....

This I can attest to, the buds on every plant are hard, especially Sam’s, even the tips, hard and learned yesterday while studying about Refractors and BRIX Scale that leafs that exhibit a waxy appearance, such as Sam’s, have high BRIX Levels ..... Guys I saw had BRIX of 18 and his leaves look shiny/ waxy - bingo baby ...also,stated with levels over 12, pests are not an issue - get your Brix over 14 and kiss ALL pests goodbye ..... pretty exciting this Brix stuff, I never knew ....
@

@slowandeasy .... I hear ya, maybe big / fat / ugly but they sure can cook up some rock hard buds

I'm probably going to have to buy some of these amendments, already have EM1 and some probably too old Mammoth P. Got lots of leaf material from previous grows, and a real nice compost pile in the backyard. I'm a little scared to use that compost for fear of bringing unwanted pests inside. But if my soils good it should resolve itself, right? Probably should just break down and buy some quality compost from a supplier. Still need to look into that gro-kashi, seems to be treating you well. A worm bin is definitely needing to happen. This first run, I was hoping to get away with just water. The soil is pretty loaded up, will I still need to mulch right away? Or wait till I see a need?

Excellent tips on the watering, finding that fine line between too much and not enough is tricky. I get what you mean on keeping the worms happy.

I really like the sound of the SIP's, let the wicking do all the work, and just add water as needed. Do you still top water when using a SIP? Or just mist the top to keep the mulch moist? Is it possible to just set a fabric pot in a container bigger than the fabric pot, and just pour water into the larger container to get the wicking effect?

I'd love to average 4 zips a plant organically, @Organic Sinse is one hell of a gardener, he's already forgotten more about growing than I'll know. Hope to be near as good as him some day.

I really enjoyed that brix lesson, it is now on the to do list. He doesn't really mention how to increase the brix level, or did I miss it?

Thanks again OB! I've looked on amazon, but they are numerous and look like cheap Chinese chit. That one looks nice, however expensive. Ya get what ya pay for though.

Alright on to an update, I remixed all the pots, added rice hulls and bark to the mix. All the cover crop was left in there to mulch down. Ended up with 4 pots now, so I'll have to decide which strain will fill pot 4. Haven't grown Sour Stomper, or Chemdogging yet, so it'll probably be one of those. Unless the people want another 2019 tester bean to get dropped? Let me know.

Pots awaiting transplant.

Also new Ripley's came up yesterday, I think the others are around a week. Hanging out under a big ass cfl.

Going to give these gals a chop, and hopefully get rid of the wife's loofa's. More space is always welcome.

Here's a shot of the whole grow space, there are 2 lamps in the tent, and 2 lamps outside the tent. Lamps outside tent are 4 Cree 3590's 2700k actively cooled heatsinks 1750mA driver dimmed to about 200w currently. One of these is lighting the Hubbabubba Haze and Mango Smile testers. Has a rather large footprint as these gals are quite wide. Probably a 3x5 space getting lit by each one.

wA1qMOz.jpg

And then a pic of the lamps in the 3x3 tent. Each lamp has 3 Vero 29 3500k actively cooled heatsinks, 1750mA driver dimmed to run 150w each. I could probably use just 1 of the lamps in here.

Big thanks to all sharing and following along. :bighug:Getting excited. :vibe:

This is Flippin exciting on this end as well .....

You are asking good questions, I’ll get back in full detail, very soon!

Peace,
OB

Pots nicely done, you’ll be surprised how far you’ll fill them ..... as for lights that something I’m working on myself, I’m probably going to upgrade to a 5x9 tent and have individual spaces within the lager tent - keep ac heater humidifier and all the climate equipment inside the tent - looking at options .....

OK let’s get down to biz and I’m not going to make any decides, rather I’ll try to explain how I did ...... Bein this is my first LOS Grow I did a lot of studying before doing, for sure didn’t want LOS grow to turn out like the first “LOS Grow” did, I was using FFOF and my worms, had no drainage - dummie me and other issues and then I found a link on AFN .... now I’m practicing what learned and outside garden experience...

Worm Bin .... I use an Urban Worm Bin - They are a flow thru worm bin, easy to use and setup, well built .... I singed up for Steve’s email alerts and have learned so much from Steve, he responds to emails, backs his products .... recommend .... meanwhile you need worms for living soil and for your bin so you need to buy and get started - OR other option is to buy compost from buildasoil or KIS Organics ..... that works almost as well and I have bags from each and use but I also have my own worms bins and are using that compost in the grow as well and I have three kinds of worms but the worm you want if only one is the Red Worm and then second is the African Crawlers and finally is the Euro Crawler or sometimes called the BIg Red Eorm not to be confused with the smaller Red Worm ..... the smallest of the bunch is the Red Worm and they eat the most ..... link for Bin it comes with or without frame, I got with frame https://urbanwormcompany.com/buy-worm-bins-books-and-castings/ I can’t stress enough how important these guys are .... if you don’t have worms, grow another way - I mean you’ll do fine but don’t count on knocking out off park ... baseball season is here :haha:

Worms and dirt stuff continued .... I started raising worms for my garden 9 months before I grew so I had that resource at my finger tips and I had all three kinds cause I was thinking maybe sideline biz, bait biz but that ain’t happening so there was the resource ..... you can have same in about six months so meantime I recommend purchasing high quality compost and yes, I compost and top dress - mulch day one .... light on top dress and compost but normal on mulch first time .... then toss ground cover seeds into and spray ....

Moisture .... I use one recommended from a podcast on KIS and it available on the Jungle Giant for around $58-$60 - I trust Tad from KID and listened to all 46 podcasts, some more than once ..... podcast 25ish about blumat water, think there are two podcasts about water and blumat .... I like and trust the one I have and it has helped ..... my next grow I may do 25 gallon pot for, photo but I’m also looking at large SIP containers .... check out Sam’s Post from the start to see Sam’s SIP .... with sip they do need to condense under the plastic cover, indoors that’s challenging so you need to spray under the plastic - discovered a why to make that happen in veg but not in flower so spray - outdoors you simply water thru a spout / 1 1/12 pipe, imuse a funnel .... moisture is always perfect, I think it rivals hydro .... SIP Plastic mulch cover also prevents earth pests from even happening, they can’t get thru .... another benefit but as you know BRIX over 12 and u should be good, I’ve got my meter and just found used old time garlic press at thrift store somtrsting later after I take care of biz, I’ll post on Sam’s Post .... on Sam I see 9-10 colas that when dried could be zip per, but remember this is my first real grow, I posted my BS grow where I thought adding worms and mulch to FFOF was living soil, yea right dummie, .....

See blumat on jungle giant for $56 shipped ..... high value plant, long term hobby was my thinking, I saw cheap too but I listened to those podcasts so maybe I was tainted .... by the way, if you only listen to 1/2 of one podcast on KIXX make it number 3 with coot himself, our living soil “founder” LOS, considered by many to be the Master, my soil is based on his recipe ..... ... final note on SIP - your soil mix may not work in a SIP, soil needs to be heavy in peat, my mix which is two bags of store bought coot based mix plus EWC and worms and bat guano and kelp, food wicking soils - that’s the one thing I see in post after post on SIP Containers, they don’t work, I couldn’t get water to draw up ..... yea silly rabbit you used FFOF, FFOF won’t wick, it’s not built too wick, it’s built to drain ....

Flavors.... Plants like Gold Glue, Strawberry Nugs, Sour Livers .... smaller and more compact plants for a seven gallon not saying bigger strains can’t but LOS is not magic, it’s just balanced in that plant has resources to draw from, and, if a certain resource is drawn down and not replaced it goofs everything up, a large plant may draw down too much .... what we don’t want to happen is grow to be just average, knock it outa the park, boy, you can do it ...... counts 3/2 here comes the pitch and wham baby, get out of here and the park, yes!
:worship:
:frog:

May not of covered everything, ask more, lovin’ it, u da man!

Question about SIPs. What I do is take a 10 gal plastic pot, put a couple inches of lava rock in the bottom and the set a 10 gal smart pot inside the hard pot, on top of the lava rock.
Here is a pic.

I roll the edges over, there is just enough room to do it.
What I do with these, is I slowly top water. Any run off goes into the saucer and is wicked back up through the lava rock, to the smart pot. I try and maintain a certain level in the saucer. The top watering is still required, because this setup can't quite wick all the way to the top. If I need to go away for a few days, I just fill the saucer full before I leave. If the pot is well mulched, it will be fine for 4 or so days.
This set up is totally compatible with blue mats or any of the other fancy stuff. One interesting caveat of this set up, only the top 6 or so inches will 'air prune' like a stand alone smart pot does. The bottom half will be nested full of root hairs.
There is the model fellas, have at it. What I love about this setup is its easy to move around. Easy to rotate plants on the saucer, easy to pick up and move. By observing the water level in the saucer, its easy to watch whether the plant is taking water or not.
cheers

Nice post, thank you for taking the time! :d5:

So I just bought that urban cowboy worm sack, looks real nice and I like the flow through design. Picked up 1000 red wrigglers to populate the sack. I also bought some bokashi, not the gro-kashi as it was quite a bit more expensive. Seemed like similar products, so I bought a 6.6lb bag for $35. The Gro-kashi was $50 for 2.2lb.

Next step I guess is to get a leaf mulch going again, and cover with straw, then cover crop. And then hang out till transplant.

Still need to get into a moisture meter, I'm sure that is a useful tool. Going to try and get a wicking reservoir for each pot and hopefully will just need to add water to the rez and mist the top to keep them worms happy. I am very confident that these pots will wick, have a wild card up my sleeve.

Blu mats may be a future purchase, kind of want to see how things go before jumping on that one.

If I can just get on base this first attempt, that will be satisfying. A home run with my first at bat, would be amazing. All due to the great coaches I have been blessed with. (that's you OB and OS).

Hey @RoastyMcToasty, w

You honor me water farm!! Thank you. :d5:

But seriously I am no master, maybe in another decade I may get good at this LOS thang. Right now I am student, leaning from the real masters. You know how you are. You are smashing the shit out of these testers, love seeing your updates. I could never get the super soil to make it the whole distance, but you've gotten very good at it.

This LOS is like growing with SS but with worms. Well, I guess some other stuff too. Thanks for coming along.

This is exactly like I envisioned doing it, except even better. Thank you for sharing that.:d5:

So the wild card up my sleeve is, I put an inch layer of straight perlite at the very bottom of my pots. Then a half inch layer of straight bark before the soil went back in. This has always assisted in the wicking of bottom fed containers for me. But I'll be happy top and bottom watering.

Here’s the seven gallon Grows .... these are in a small tent and they don’t have same environment ....

My god they look so effing healthy! And Plump!:greenthumb: :d5:
