New Grower First Grow - Northern Lights/Pineapple Express/Sweet Tooth (Autos)

I made so many incorrect assumptions during the front end of my first grow, it's obvious from the number of times my game plan changes in my journal. That's why this site is so important. It's information that dispels the anxiety. That, and feeling comfortable with your methods for attributing validity to that information. I feel like the first grow is specifically meant to be troublesome and pose problems, that's how we learn the best. The REACTION to those problems is a training process as well. It teaches us not to overreact or to react with too drastic of a change. I've been calling this "thinking on plant time"...when we think on social/human time, we want to enact change immediately and we want to see results immediately. Plants don't operate at that pace, so we end up overreacting and causing more problems. If we come up with a game plan for a correction then institute it in small increments so that we may observe what that correction is effecting, we are starting to think in "plant time"....at least that's my approach :)

I've tried to approach growing from a scientific perspective, make plan with as few variables as possible, gather data, interpret results, reach conclusion on results, adjust for disparity between projections and results, rinse and repeat. Following Trap's advice of not reacting until all the data is in, and then only acting on the most local aspect of the problem is probably the best growing related advice you'll get. Ever.

It's funny cause I'm more excited about my next grow than I am the current one. Even my sweet tooth. Since she got started about a week or so after the other 2. I expect her to be better because I did make a few mistakes in that first week and I don't think I repeated them with her.

Update!!

I actually went ahead and tried some LST on the NL. Not sure if I did it right. I wasn't sure how much I needed to bend her but I think I got her bent over enough. (gawd that sounds nasty)

Btw medi, I thought it was funny we both have topled lights now. I have the non reflector version of your light. 100x3 =)

I think that's super-common....you want to tackle another grow with the knowledge you've gained....With autos especially, what's been done cannot be undone because of the "locked-in" time frame...you now know different things that will dictate different choices next time around and you're anxious to act on what you learned....me too! Can't wait for grow #2! BUT, I also can't wait to load a big, fat bowl of Dark Devil before setting up my new tent :)

Yea that's pretty much how it is. For a while I was wishing I started with photos instead of autos. I was a bit worried about having complete darkness though so I went with autos.

I just installed my new inline fan and sadly my temps haven't really went down at all. It doesn't seem to be doing any better than my duct booster was doing. Pretty disappointed with it tbh. Maybe I can try to extend the duct a bit and running it a little closer to the closet door so the hot air is leaving the closet faster.

I'd also love some feedback on my first try at lst. Anyone got some input on that? ;3

LST looks fine. As for the light, do you have their older model lights?

Oh yeah, definitely...sounds like you may just be recirculating hot air right now, which actually gets progressively worse. Get the exhaust to dump as far away as feasible...preferably another room or attic. I guarantee that will buy you 4 or 5 degrees.

Yea I got this one http://www.topledgrowlight.com/led-grow-light-100x3w.html#.U6nrPfldV8E

They say 150-170 actual draw but I remember reading someone claim they were getting 200w when they tested it. Wish I had a meter.

I wish I could dump it into an attic or something but I live in an apartment. My tent is inside of the master bedrooms closet. All I can really do is run the duct to the door and try to dump the air into the room.

I swear the air that is coming out of my fan is not even hot at all. It feels cool as hell. Shouldn't it be warm?!?

Where are you drawing the air out from? Top of closet or bottom?
