New Grower First Grow - Mephisto - Jammy Dodgers #2 (4)

I'm going to wait one more day for any results, If I don't see any progress would it ok to pm you so that you can walk me through on how you germinate step by step? That goes for anyone else that would like to offer their help tomorrow. I have other types of soil that I can use besides promix hp. mainly fox farms
Up till now I've grown exclusively in FFOF and germed directly into seedling trays with it as the starting medium. Let me know if you have any questions id be happy to help out as well.

No doubt Dankerson, I'll make sure to keep you in mind as well incase any issues show up.

Awesome, I'll keep everyone posted tomorrow on what happens with these four seeds. If I have to drop the four 3 bears OG seeds I'll be making a new thread for that , but part of me feels like maintaining this one so that this example doesn't get buried.
I was thinking about getting another pot started and popping either a Samsquanch OG or CDLC, but I'm wondering if 5 plants will be overcrowding the tent. If i do, ill try to document the germination process for you and anyone else's future reference.

That actually sounds really good. Make sure to tag me so that I don't miss it

Hey guys I just wanted to post a quick update, so ever since Tuesday night I've been giving each cup 5 sprays of water every 24 hours. along with spraying the dome 5 times and I've kept the LED running in the kit. Doesn't seem to be much of anything happening so far. If the seedlings don't pop out of the soil by Saturday morning, I'll be dropping four 3 Bears OG seeds in water and restarting everything. Thanks for reading and I hope I can retrace my steps and figure out if I made a mistake of some sort. So far I am 0 for 7 when it comes to getting some Jammy Dodgers #2 seedlings. maybe I got a bad pack or I made a critical mistake somewhere. not sure but everyday is a new learning experience. I may skip the entire Germ kit and just plant directly to the final pot, with a plastic cup on top.
I personally germinate my seeds directly in the soil. That said I do not get 100% germination with that method however. Some seeds can and have taken up to 3 weeks to pop through the soil with direct germination. Seedling stage is the most difficult stage to get down for sure. Too much moisture and you can rot the tap root not enough and they shrivel up and die. Planting too deep with a pre germinated seed will generally cause the tap root to damper off under the growing medium. Usually if I pre germinate a seed and transplant into the medium I will cover the pot for up to 4 or 5 days and if the bean hasn't sprouted I will uncover the pot and let it start to dry out a bit on top and after about 10 days I will lightly dig up the spot where I planted the seedling to see if its still viable or not.

When I do a direct medium germination I will usually drop 3 beans in each pot and cover them with a clear solo cup for the first week. Be careful not to over water and it is ok to let the top bit of the medium to dry out a bit while germinating. I usually plant my beans about 1/8 of an inch deep and just keep an eye on the medium to make sure it doesn't dry off any deeper than I planted the seed. Keeping the medium too moist can bring on gnats which will lay eggs on your new baby tap roots and kill off your seedlings also. Its pretty much a very fine line between under and over watering at this stage.

Sometimes a quick scrub with a tube rolled out of sand paper before you germinate will help if the seed has a thick shell. Roll a tube with the grit on the inside and drop the seed in it covering the ends with your fingers and tumble the seed for a few seconds inside it to scuff up the shell coating will help water penetrate to the seedling and help get it growing.

Best of luck here with finding your preferred germination technique hopefully you will reach success soon and be up and growing!

Thanks for all of your tips Jean-O, I checked out your site too and wow amazing stuff bro. I hope to one day be a great grower like you. Also I will def keep in mind everything you said. I have seen grow journals where seeds that have been considered lost end up showing up 1-3 weeks later.

When it comes to moisture I am sticking to a spray bottle for the first 10 days or so that way I don't overwater. I didn't know that about planting too deep. I thought that the tap root would extend and push the seed over the soil. Thankfully these cups aren't too large and I also made sure to only drop them about half an inch into the soil. I guess 10 days is the limit.

About dropping multiple seeds. I did notice that other growers would drop 2 seeds per pot and then pick out the best looking seedling out of the two, So I will be trying that next round as well. I once watered a different soil mix and I def noticed the fungus gnats after a day. So I instantly sprinkled some Diatomaceous Earth on top and it took care of that problem. But I have some yellow sticky traps and other things to take care of pests. I did also read that putting a small piece of sandpaper inside of a medicine bottle then placing your seeds inside gently tumbling them in does help.

There's so many things to keep in mind for a successful grow. Doing all of this has truly made me appreciate amazingly grown weed. I still remember back around mid 2000s I would come across the dankest Sour Diesel on the planet. My main goal is to eventually grow something amazing like that.

~~~~~Also I would like to give you guys a mini update. I sprayed the cups about 3 hours ago and I just checked them and the 4th cup seems to have a seedling coming out! should I give it assistance or will it continue extending? maybe I really did bury these seeds too deep.
Looks like she is going good in the pic. Off to the races now! :pop:
I'm seeing two seedlings pop out and the first cup has the shell on the surface. Looks like things are turning around. It'll be 12 hours since their last spray down, Once that's done I'll check on them again tomorrow morning and see what develops. View attachment 1480485
O Yeah! One good thing about a deeper planted seed is that the shell should fall off while coming up through the soil. Sometimes if you plant them shallow like I was talking the shell can get stuck on the seedling and you will have to help coax it off which is a pain....
