Grow Mediums First Grow - Hydro/DWC Training SCROG w/ Bagseed Photos

Got a little system right down by the tent, put on one of my favorite shows (right now 5-23-1982 Greek Theater) and go to work or just stare at them for a while. Sometimes I leave the tunes on so they can jam to Scarlet - Fire!

It's moving day !!!

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

IT'S MOVING DAY !!!!
Today Miz Dubya has transferred to her new home in the DWC bucket!!

After reading about "damping off" in rockwool, I realized that Miz Dubya was buried too deep in her plug. So I figured now is as good a time as any to rectify the situation and check her roots at the same time. So I dug her out of the perlite and sure enough, the roots were out, but I also noticed what may be a spot of mold on her stem from the plug. I then carefully peeled away the excess rock wool, leaving the lower root-bound half and after lightly scraping her stem clean, placed her in the DWC bucket.
Like a proud papa seeing baby take her first steps!
Of course I'll be much happier when I see roots out the bottom of the net pot!

Hate to leave things on a bad note but...
The double-damned tent hasn't arrived yet and yesterday when I checked the fricken' thing still hadn't shipped!!!! So I called Amazon to bitch about why it has been 4 days and an IN STOCK ITEM SOLD AND SHIPPED BY AMAZON had not been shipped. I got some "him-haw" about that distribution center being closer to me and they don't need to rush and it'll arrive before the last due date. Now, I know that this is just some service rep, BUT THAT'S UTTER HORSESHIT!! The order placed on the 15th and all but the tent shipped on the 16th!! The tent shipped YESTERDAY AFTERNOON!! Needless to say I chewed her ass out about piss poor customer service and if wanted to delay 4 days, I would have WAITED 4 more days to order!!!!!!!

Love the stones, they look real fine.
Sorry to hear about amazon, I bought a premier membership. Saves me money just for the cat food alone! but ya customer service is more like lip service these days.

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

Not much change. She's a little droopy since the transplant, which is to be expected. Finding that the res keeps changing pH from 5.8 back to 6.3 requiring a daily pH adjustment. Unfortunately, their are no roots in the res yet, so I can only blame the immersion of the growstones in the bottom of the net pot. Now, I REALLY don't like growstones. Miz Dubya definitely likes the lower pH range. At 5.8-5.9 she perks up, but anything above 6.1-6.2 and she slows down.

Definitely going to use "jugged" drinking water on the next res change and go back to the tap when it's bloom time and the demand for cal/mag is higher. I'm also considering a quick change to hydroton before this goes too far. I REALLY hate pumice. I'm going to have to add hydroton anyway as the net pot is not well covered. Barely at the top of the mesh.

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

Miz Dubya is still being a "droopy drawers" after transplanting her to the bucket. She's not taking it too well and I'm trying to keep her watered with pH 5.8 from a cup. She has a ways to go yet.

The tent FINALLY MADE IT!!!

About time! It'll be next weekend before i can put it up though because I no longer have the time. Heading out tomorrow to spend Christmas with the kids and too much to do tonight. I'll get some pix up as soon as I get things crankin'.

During this process, once the tent is in place, I'll build the SCROG frame to fit the tent. The tent is 48x48x84 and the SCROG will be (near) 48x36x84. Of course, allowing for the inner frame, actual tent sizing, etc. Probably closer to 45x36x81. I'll get some construction pix with measurements and maybe post it in the DIY section as well.

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

Last night before bed, I raised the bucket water level up to where the bubble action is just under Miz Dubya. She is visibly more perky this morning. I did not add any extra nutes but did drop the pH a couple of extra points (be gone a couple days) as this thing seems to go from 5.9 to 6.3 overnight with nothing drawing on it yet. Once again, I'm really hating these growstones! They leach too much alkali into the mix. Hopefully, the hydroton will do better. If not, hell, I'll use an inert material like marbles. Won't matter what the material is as long as the roots are reaching the water, wick action be damned. There are ways around that (drip ring). I've already gone through a third of a bottle of pH down and that ain't gonna fly. Maybe my coco-lined perlite "hempy" net pot SD grow will do better. We'll see cuz those are 30G tubs and I'm not of the mind to buy a 55 gallon drum of phosphoric acid to try to maintain pH in that size of res. I WILL be getting a portable RO rig to clean up this tap water for the SD run.

Merry Christmas AFN!!

WELL DAMN. The tent doesn't fit!
"Grrr"
I guess I'll have to reconfigure the shelving for it to fit. I'm short about an inch and a half. So much for 48x48; more like 49.75x49.75. This grow will have to happen without the tent, I guess. I can still build the SCROG frame though and will probably start that tomorrow. I'll rework the shelving after this grow is finished.

Miz Dubya is doing very well and is showing much better growth. No nutes added just pH corrected 6.2 back to 5.8.

Thx Willie! She does look much better. I can still build the SCROG to fit the tent by just laying out the tent base frame and taking my measurements from that. After I cut back the shelves, it'll all fit.
