Today Miz Dubya is showing her 2nd set of leaves, but she's slow and getting the pH lockout leaf twist. She's in a Solo cup in rockwool plug bedded in perlite. I drained the cup and measured what I got back (about 3/4 inch worth) and the pH was 6.5, so I added more 6.5 water to it filled the cup and brought it down to 5.2 and flushed back into her cup. I think 5.9-6.0 overall will do fine. Remember, the perlite and rockwool hold water (undrainable) at 6.5. The addition of 5.2 gives me a balance point (in a perfect world, all things being equal) should render 5.8-5.9 pH. More than likely the actual is 6.0-6.1 after filtering down through the perlite. I'll check again later. In the full Solo cup of pH 4.9 I've added .5ml of GH Micro, 1ml of GH Bloom, and 1 drop of DM Zone. Then I pH'd it to 5.2 @ 959 ppm. Remember my native tap water is 395 ppm and with pH'ing and Zone is around 495. This leaves 464 ppm of nutes and such. I've noticed that the DM Zone adds 100 ppm all by itself. I poured 2 oz. of the GH mix @ pH 5.2 back in her cup.

I'll check again in the morning. Maybe another baby pic tomorrow. Of the other 5 seeds, nothing yet.

She's definitely a spindly little thing, all Sativa. Hope she's a SHE!! That'd be a lot of wasted work on a POSER!

The morning retest of Miz Dubya's cup came back at 5.9 pH. Right in the sweet spot. Lowered the 400w down to 24" to see if I can't stop the stretching. "She's looking a bit thin" as mom would say. Now it's time to sit back and let her rip.

A couple of new baby pics. She's a bit decrepit looking. As I speculated earlier, I don't think these seeds were mature enough. So far, out of nine seeds only this one and she definitely looks a bit "wampy-jawed" as we say down here. The genetics were ok, just could have used a little more time "baking in the oven". Ppm and pH still on track and her color is much better than the last couple of days. Noticeable growth in the 1st and 2nd leaf sets today. Not much, but noticeable. This is more than she's been doing, so I'm stoked (for now). I really don't want to practice on "bought" seed, so I hope she makes it. This grow is about the means to the end, not the end itself, as this is a training run.

Here's my damaged child. A little twisted of leaf, but growing. Any opinions welcome!!

Things are starting to move now. Daily growth has become more noticeable as she starts to get a grip on life. She's still slow, but growing faster. I've lowered the light a little more down to about 18". She's not exactly "reaching" yet, but hopefully soon. Her leaves are still a bit twisted, but the 2nd set is improving as she grows and one has become 3 tabbed. I'm still sitting back and watching my damaged child, hoping for the best.



Also found a Lighthouse Blackstar LED in a pawn shop yesterday. It was marked as DJ lights! ROFLMAO!! This is the 180w UV flowering rig and it worked great when tested, though it's a bit "scuffed up".

And the stretch has begun!

WOW! Big difference from this morning to this afternoon! This morning she looked like yesterday's pic, but now she's stretched and those tiny new leaves just barely visible in the pic have grown 1/4". She's still showing signs of a malfunction in that the new leaves have one side that is twisted; that is, one leaf good but the other has the twist.
Oh well, all smokes the same!



Now the question is, "When to put her in the bucket?".

I just hope she doesn't turn out to be...
