New Grower First Grow - GCS Bubble Gum and Cheese

how far down are u stickin the probe-? i let mine dry out all the way to the bottom before watering again, but that'z jus me  also, they shouldn't be needin nutez yet at jus 9d old, unless of course ur in coco...what ph are u waterin at, and what'z ur soil ph-? jus fyi, but de will raize the soil ph ;) ppp

The probes were right around 2 inches deep, which is what the instructions recommended, and about 2 inches from the plant.

I've tried to remove as much of the DE from the area where I was watering early on. And removed more as I increased my watering amount. I did check the pH on the meter and looking at the scale on the photo i think it was sitting about 7-7.5, so maybe looking at too high pH? So what's the fix for that? Obviously start with scraping off any remaining DE on the surface, and then what, flushing with low pH water or flush with 6.5. Not in coco by the way, so I'll skip the nutes for another week.

Appreciate the help buddy!

Crap, cleaned out as much of the DE as possible (still a few specs on the soil, and white on the sides of the pot) and decided to check the pH with the probe (also marked off 2" on the probe to make sure it's accurate and repeatable) and the pH is pegged at 8. Time to do some research on lowering soil pH.

well, that'z a bit ironic, lol, cuz the ffof that me NL girlz are in has been 7.5 from the get-go...i would water at 6.0 & the runoff would be 6.2 or so...but lately that'z changed, now that thingz are reachin the end & each new watering has been a new juggle, lol  the happy frog on the other hand has been all but 8.0...so jus this morn, i watered at 5.8, but the runoff was still 6.7, so still some adjusting to do on that as well...i'd say def get a good ph pen as soon as u can & in the meantime, water at around 6.0...jus me own 2 ctz ;) ppp

edit: forgot to mention to jus forget about that 2" "rule"...like i say, i let the soil dry all the way to the bottom & that meanz probing to the bottom as well...otherwize, the bottom could be stayin wet all the time with u really realizin, and thus, an open invitation for fungus gnatz, so...jus sayin... ;)

I've got a pH pen, so that's covered, but since they're young and I'm in soil I haven't been watering to runoff, so that leads to a new question, should I be watering to runoff with normal watering? I can see while I'm trying to clear out the remnants of DE, but when I'm just doing normal watering I thought you shouldn't go to runoff when in soil. Have I been wrong there?

Well, I knew this would be a learning experience!

well, watering to runoff is a diff strokez kinda thing actually...some do, some don't...i don't durin the first couple weekz, after which i'll let jus a wee bit run off for the next couple timez, then startin around day 20 or so, i'll water til runoff...and don't ask me what percentage it is, lol, i'll jus let it fill up about half the drain pan...i water right before lightz out, and by lightz on 6 hrz later, they've sucked up whatever runoff there was, so...again, this is all jus me & everybody'z different ;) but at 9d, no, u don't need to water til runoff, or at least i don't, but let otherz chime in as well  ppp

So I just made up a gallon of pH 5.8 water and watered them over a big pyrex bowl until I got some runoff (didn't measure, but I'd guess an ounce or two) transferred tha run off to a small ice cream bowl so I could get the bulb on my pH pen covered, and the runoff pH was 6.4 on Bubbles and 6.5 on the Mayor.

I also had to pile up a little soil around bubbles, since she was starting to get a little gangsta lean going on from moving the pots around.

Once I got them back into the tent, I checked moisture and pH moisture was on the high side of green and soil pH os showing a solid 7, I'll probably need to flush a couple more times to get it to a healthy level, but hopefully I caught this early enough to avoid any long term issues.

Another question, with all this flushing, am I going to have to start adding nutes afterall?

well, there again, opinionz on flushing differ vastly, lol...i meself don't, and in ur case, they're not old enuff to have built up anything to hafta flush out anyway, so... i'd jus let em go for now & see how they react...all thingz in moderation my friend  ppp

i wondered where you got to Path :pass:more @'s
id let the plant ride it out a bit being at day 9,,,,with a lot of flushing could get waterlogged and do more harm than good til its a bit bigger.i do pretty much the same as 420F when it comes to watering

Well, my thought process here is running low pH water through it a few times to clear out the remnants of the DE. But I guess I'll just ride it out and see how things go. I'd rather err on the side of caution here then change to many things at once and yo-yo the girls. I really appreciate the input guys!

ok after reading p4 i take back what i said about the flushing, just a bit.
to much N or the claw....is very different from droop (can be both under and over watering)
the claw is like ya cant bend the first knuckle of your finger without beding the second, claw is just the tip of leaf pointing down.
as you say pots felt real light.
a few days before planting i give the empty pot a good watering.(edit...not the empty pot ya nu,pty,i mean the pot with no seed in it)
:pighug:
