New Grower First Grow - GCS Bubble Gum and Cheese

Also. I may need to revise some wording. I'll have to go look.
But you never want your pots (soaked)
What I meant by pre watering dry soil was just enough to get it moist.
And soaking the beans I meant in solo cups of water. Can also soak them in paper towels etc.
I hope you didnt saturate the pots too heavily. And apologies if I worded something to have you inclined to do that.
No cause for alarm yet. You dont have drowning babies so no love lost.
But be very cautious with the seedlings and gnats. The larvae will kill a seedling fast.
One time I had a seedling die. I picked it out. The tap root started moving and I thought I was nuts. And damn gnat larvae made a home INSIDE the tap and ate the root from the inside.
You may consider planting the beans in rooter pods for a few days and keep them in a starter dome for a few days until you get a good battle plan and the gnats knocked down

Thanks @Master_gi don't think I've "soaked" the pots, I just couldn't think of a better phrasing at the time. All told I put about 1/2 gallon of pH'd water between the two pots (3 gallon fabric pots), enough to get the medium wet. Since it will have a few days to dry out while I wait for the seeds to crack in the paper towel.

I am diverging from your start in the thread, only because GCS has a very exact germination process in order for then to honor their germination guarantee. I'm kind of glad I am using the paper towel since that will give the soil some time to dry out and allow me to get the DE on there before I actually plant.

As for soaking the seeds, yeah, I put them in a couple of drinking glasses filled with distilled water for 16 hours, again per GCS's germination guidelines. I have a small spray bottle for when these girls hit the dirt to avoid overwatering, since that seems to be the biggest killer early on.

I'm confident I'll get this under control, but I'm a little irritated that this popped up as soon as I opened the soil. Oh well, let's hope this is the worse that happens on this grow!

Absolutely. if said breeder has a process to follow for a guarantee. Follow it lol.
I wouldn't worry too much about a few flyers if I have germed beans. I'd go ahead and plant what's popped.
Just get a fan on the fabric pots and all should be fine.
Cant wait to see this grow knocked out the park by you bub

Checked the soil again this evening, it's almost dry at the top. I figure by the time I get off work, I should be dry enough to add the DE to the top. Fortunately the seeds haven't popped yet, I gave the paper towel a couple of spritzes of distilled water and covered it back up. I'm just going to let them do their thing, and hope the timing works out that the DE knocks out any remaining larvae before they're ready for the pots.

So, slight change of plans, I checked the seeds this morning, and the already popped and were both showing a tap root about the same length as the seed. I asked the wife to throw a layer of DE on too of the soil. I got home from work, and those dang roots had nearly doubled in length during the 11 hours I was out.

I decided it would be better to put them in the ground than to leave them in the towel. So they're now in the dirt and lightly watered.

On the bright side, when I went down there to plant them, there was nothing flying around. That doesn't mean there isn't larvae hiding in the soil, but hopefully the DE takes care of that. Sticky traps are in place so I'll be keeping a close watch on that.

Pictures to come when they poke their heads out.

Not much new to report. Checked on the girls when I got home from work, no signs of life, but it's only been 24 hours, so that's no surprise. Both pots had a good amount of heft still and the top of the soil still was a little dark, so I decided to forego watering tonight.

On the bright side, I only saw 4 gnats on the glue traps, and none flying, so I think that might be under control.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Looks like we're officially on day one for Bubblegum. I went down to check on them, and she poked her head out. Cheese hasn't quite made it out, but any day now I assume. Bubbles still has her seed casing on, so I'll be monitoring that. Still no new gnats, so that's good.

I gave the both a light watering of pH'd water. Sorry, no pics, I don't think my phone will focus on the little bugger!

I thought id show you a glimpse of ur future. Gcs bubblegum not sure how old she was here but they stack huge colas.
