New Grower First grow ever. Will keep updated regularly. Feel free to tag along

So I'm kind of irritated! So the site I purchased my light from had a ppfd rating at different heights. Well when I checked the actual manufacturer's website I found that at 24 in through veg I have been force feeding close to 900 ppfd which is way high for the seedlings and during veg. It's good for flower, honestly I might move it to 22in now. That may be a part of the reason why these girls didn't stretch like I would have hoped for. Well we live and we learn and next grow I will adjust accordingly. I am just irritated that I let that happen and I didn't research more on this issue

Edit and this isn't even including the reflective walls. So it was probably more than 900 because the footprint of this bad boy is way bigger than my 3x3 tent haha. They have probably been getting closer to 1000+ with the overlap from the mylar. At least I think that's how it works. With over 900 ppfd in the dead center and only down to 700 something at the edge of my tent and plenty of extra hitting the walls.

On a positive note... Today I'm going to be eating good. Got my secret Italian beef recipe going for dinner tonight. Mmmm today is a good day! Anyone in Illinois come slide through for a sandwich later

Daily update

Day 40 widows
Day 35 Zkittlez

~70°F lights off, 78°F lights on
~40-50%RH
-2,000 ml RO water per plant
-15ml/gal fox farm big bloom (micro nutes)
-2.5ml/gal fox farm grow big 6-4-4
-2.5ml/gal fox farm tiger bloom 2-8-4
-5ml/gal botanicare cal-mag plus 2-0-0
-18/6 light cycle
-Light distance 20 in down 4 in for higher ppfd. Going to keep an eye on them to see how they do.

Enter tiger bloom! So the girls got their first feed of bloom nutes tonight at lights on. I am going to feed with a half and half mix of veg and bloom nutes for this feeding and next feeding then I am going to make the full swap to bloom nutes. The girls are still getting some nitrogen from the bloom nutes and the cal-mag. So all should be good in the hood. So I am running at half strength for feed still and I think I will keep this schedule because the girls don't seem to be lacking anywhere. Well technically it's 1/4 strength veg and 1/4 bloom but equals out to 1/2 strength for my feed purposes. Not much more to report besides that the girls are all getting frosty! Like a really good nice frost and it's beautiful. Well til tomorrow! :pass:

Not super familiar with the nutrients you are using but she looks to me like a break from the nitrogen would not hurt for a feeding or two. Bloom nutrients definitely.

They look super healthy and chugging along,

I am using the fox farm trio, and why do you say that? I was planning on only feeding one more veg feed before the switch to full flower but I can make that switch next feeding instead of another half and half feed, also my bloom nutes have 2% nitrogen in them. Is it a bad thing to switch fertilizers at this point? I got my megacrop in and I wondered if the higher P-K ratio in that would be better during flower. I didn't know if that would be beneficial because the bloom nutes I'm using now are 2-8-4, mega crop is 9-6-17. I know that's not dropping the nitrogen like you said. Why I'm kinda curious as to what you are seeing! Thanks for the input. I appreciate it

Im curious as well! The only visual indicators i can imagine seeing would be the darker green color and the slight clawing on some of the fan leaves.
Seems like this happens to us all at some point in the grow. Mine did it at the transition between veg and flower but new growth seems to be good, it evened itself out in the kindsoil

If your leaves are already that dark you have enough nitrogen and the requirements will be slowing down. You have nitrogen in your calmag and your bloom so I would not think with the leaves already that dark you would not need any more. With the leaves that dark switching to MC for bloom won’t really reduce your nitrogen. I’d finish the grow with what you have.
Not telling you what to do but offering opinions based upon a very long distance view of your plant. I like to be much lighter at this stage. If they continue to darken as they head into bloom I reduce base nutrients. If they lighten I up the nitrogen. When they are already that dark and the requirements are becoming reduced its tough to tell how close you are to nitrogen toxicity. IMHO you ideally want your leaves that dark going into the last three to four weeks. At that point you can safely cut out all nitrogen and the plant will beautifully color into harvest. Your plant still needs nitrogen now so it can be tough to determine if it’s happy. Slight tip burn in the first few weeks is always a good sign but at this point needs will drop of so quickly that by the time your nitrogen becomes to high and you see the tips turn it will already be burnt curling and dried tips.

Of course I don’t have a clue if any of this is actually true but just anecdotal based upon what I have done and seen others do. As you probably know by now I run my nutrients very lightly and have had a ton more success that way. I’ve seen a few others that are using Megacrop also run light doses. General consensus seems to be moving to less is more across all nutrient lines.

I’m sure if you stay where you are with your nitrogen you won’t hurt them and if there is any issue you can always correct it. But if you do just run your bloom and cal/ mag you still have nitrogen there, and in your medium and plant.

Going forward, any grow i do that requires me to actively feed i will be using the less is more approach. Im trying to keep that in mind as well with the 1 plant i have that im using nutes on.
I know its been said before and i caught myself saying it in a post, i would rather feed lightly and adjust to what the plant needs than force a bunch of crap down the plants throats.

Always easier said than done. But we can try. Medium and how we feed also makes a huge difference which is why it’s always really tough to offer suggestions. I’m going to try and stay away from telling people to do this or that and just offer points of reflection to help them watch their plant. Hopefully that will keep me out of trouble.
