Day 19: Started supplementing silica. Figured it couldn't hurt, and stems were pretty weak from the two weeks of pH problems. White Crack had plasticky-looking leaves before I even corrected the pH problem. I think it's a combination of factors, but nitrogen sensitivity seems to be one of them as since correcting the pH problem it started getting a lot worse with clawing, and tearing from the stiffness and cupping--it ended up with nitrogen toxicity despite being one of the oldest, largest plants. Very few leaves are affected, and only two badly. Decreased nitrogen. From this I learned that, while I'd already accepted the common wisdom that different strains have different nutrient needs and sensitivities, I had no idea the difference could be this significant.

I won't be topping them no matter what I urge I get--remind me of this if I get crazy. No gambles on my maiden grow.

Day 20: Topped Sour Crack above the 5th node and LST'd it. It was leaving the others in the dust. Because it's offset several inches from the center of the pot, I'm trying to bend it toward the farthest side. I also had to rotate it away from the center of the light because it was starting to encroach on its neighbors...

Day 21: SC wasn't slowed down a bit from the trauma as far as I can tell. Newer growth on WC is looking good, as is newer growth on the most calcium-disturbed of the four plants, Forum Stomper. Things seem to have stabilized. Transpiration has really picked up as I've taken my humidifier from 75% power to minimum power while maintaining perfect VDP.

You can see the burn along the edges clearly on even the healthier leaves. This hasn't worsened in two days, though, so nutrient levels are good now.

I'm thinking about pinching this particular leaf to expose the healthy one below. This is kind of funny--it isn't the new growth that is worst affected, or the oldest growth, but one in between.

This is obviously a great strain for a newbie. I neglected it with poorly pH'd water for 12 days, then fed it enough to burn its older cousin, and it's doing just fine.

Day 22: No new plant pics, but I got the spraying rig set up. The ~300 GPH pump produces the perfect amount of pressure for the wand. It's much easier to water the plants evenly now, and without splashing or pitting. I can also mix 4 gallons of solution at a time.

Plants are all doing really well now. I pinched the two worst calcium-deficient leaves on Forum Stomper, and the two worst nitrogen-toxic leaves on White Crack. Still several days from flowering, but the unique undertones are becoming recognizable to my nose.

That pump and wand look great!

Day 23: Finally have light burn. It's on White Crack, and I wouldn't be sure it was light burn rather than a potassium deficiency if not for the fact that it's just the leaves closest to the center of the light. This is the plant that was the sickest recently (too much nitrogen), so it makes sense it would be more susceptible to burn despite not being the tallest by several inches. I moved the light up two inches, and by the time it grows into the light, it should be hearty enough to deal with the intensity. After the photo I also rotated the plant. Sour Crack is wondering why all its neighbors are such pussies. They respond by saying their dad hasn't always taken the best care of them. :p

I probably won't need the humidifier anymore in a week or two...

I just flattened out Sour Crack with the ugliest LST ever. I did it bent over with my head in the tent--in a couple days I'll take it out and redo everything. I've had pipecleaners on it for several days and just added a couple more. The others haven't needed any. I've been surprised with just how effective bending stems every day has been, in addition to the standard leaf tucking. No broken stems or splits at the node, no uprooting, no damage done whatsoever as best I can tell.

Despite age differences and some plants having a rougher childhood than others, all plants are within 2" max height of one another. I'm so glad I broke my vow by topping SC.

Anyone know what alkaloid it is that manifests before flowering even begins? It's to the point since day 20 or 21 where an experienced smoker would be able to identify the plants blindfolded. Maybe it's coming from the pre-flowering pistils.

Anyway, this effort stopped being stressful several days ago and is now actually fun. I'm not even in a hurry to see progress anymore. The seedling phase just sucks.

a few bumps in the road, but thats only to be expected first time outa the box.on the whole lookin pretty good  and nice job on the bending
growing can be stressfull, but it wouldnt be as much fun if the tent was on auto pilot and you only looked in every couple of weeks.
some first grows can be about avoiding disaster, some are dialing in and others have a green thumb.aim down the middle and keep it outa the hedges and youl end up with some mighty fine buds.
good luck n keep er lit
:pighug:

You might honestly get some dank because of all the stress you put it through. The plants are still alive so all is not lost and best of all you make the same mistakes again.

Yeah, I expect the quality of the buds to be perfectly fine. I might not have aesthetically divine colas, but I think potency should be normal. My yield expectations are reasonable I think (I'd only be disappointed if I got less than a dry ounce combined). I'm about 99% certain you meant to include a "won't" in there regarding making the same mistakes again. :p I haven't repeated any mistakes yet, and the light burn is almost a necessary evil: you have to learn your where you light works best and where it's just a little too much. The manufacturer's suggested distances are way off for this model and user recommendations are all over the place...
