EverythingsHazy's Breeding Thread

seeding it is a bad idea , as the ppm's rise so does the size of the particles being made , if you were to seed a batch you would miss out on the earlier small particles

i wouldnt wipe the wires just because of discolouration , we want that , we just dont want gunk

when i used to properly test mine i found it hard to reach or pass 45 ppm , but thats making sure i wasnt brewing a thick paste or anything like that lol , i think i could prolly exceed 45 , but ive not gone out of my way to do so cause i then wouldnt use it on my plants or myself , might try some time soon though

peace

ahh. Good idea with the seeding missing the smaller particles. Makes sense.
I'm very curious if this batch will still then Amber since it hasn't already.
Also curious to see if the ppm is going to level out at 17 again like it did without the air pump.

***Edit***
It's up to 13ppm now and rising faster finally. Still clear.

Ok so this batch is done. It rose up to 20ppm which is the highest it's even gotten for me before. Previous highest is 17 and the water was grey with lots of silver on the bottom. This time it is clear with some tiny particles floating but they will be strained out soon anyway. Going to let it sit and see if it changes color now. It should be already amber by tonight if it is going to change the same way the last couple batches did.

Is this the same power supply or did you attach the other one for a test?

Same power supply. Only wanted to change one variable at a time. And I think it couldve gone higher than 20ppm. I may set up a jar and let it run until it hits 50ppm or maxes out below that if it does, but I want to see if this will turn amber like the others
So far there i no amber coloration at all. It is now in a dark cabinet but the door has some openings on the front so its not light proof. Still I wanted to see how it compared to my old batches.

One thing I havent done yet, is strain it through the white bleached filters I've had to use previously so I may do that and see if that changes anything. Otherwise, after going through the coffee filter right now, it will be able to pass for water with a Tyndall effect.

Ok here we go! Just started a new batch. 0ppm to start, rinsed the new mason jar with distilled water to get the smell out which it did, and spaced the rods a tiny bit farther than they were when the last batch finished only because at the end, the rods would discolor within 5-10 minutes. That was when it was approaching 20ppm tho. anyway.

Considering turning the plant on its side over a mirror and flicking it a bit to see if any pollen is ready. None of the pollen sacs have stems tho. Is that normal?

not sure ive been clear or not , you WANT discolouration , just not gunk , my wire changes colour almost immediately

you have clusters of sacs (good) maybe you just dont see the lil stems ?

I know discoloration means it's working, but isn't discoloration just a small amount of buildup? That's why you can wipe it off. The wire isn't discolored, just the particles building up around it, or breaking off and staying close to it. If you look with a magnifying glass, or through a round part of the far you can kinda see some silver particles pretty evenly "growing" around the wire... Before the air pump was added, it was uneven growth and made the water murky. Now it is much more uniformly , and the water stays clear, so I think it might be stopping the buildup at a certain point.

Also got another batch going already that is at 9ppm (6hr42min). Going to leave it overnight to see what happens. It is still crystal clear. As is the first batch of 20ppm. Still hasn't been strained through anything like the previous ones which went through the bleached filters. Is there any reason the bleached ones are particularly bad? Gonna get unbleached ones from here on out. but just curious because what do they do to coffee and stuff?

And awesome(pollen sacs). Gonna see if any pollen comes from them tomorrow. The plant has been in a room with moving air tho (air conditioner and fan) so it is getting moved now.

that discolouration is your silver , your c.s. , constantly wiping it is prolly why you reach the teens - 20 ppm and nothing more , your wasting the silver on whatever you use to wipe them with

if you screw up and dont wipe soon enough , dont worry , the sludge settles to the bottom , when filling your spray bottle just go slow as to not pour in the sludge , also , stop filtering every batch , its unnessesary ime

best of luck

p.s. i was told years ago , dont use toilet paper with pretty flowers cause of the ink , and dont use any paper products for food that are white/bleached because of resedue or w/e

the big notice of why not to use bleached filters for me was when making oil , not only could i taste and smell the difference , i could see it too
