I've seen one of those in action and they're cool. The problem is A - they're expensive. B - another 3.5kw on electric and C - mentioned above "water meters" - But! room climate is everything and I would imagine they're worth return on the outlay.
My soil room looks like I cleaned it with a grenade! One more grow then I´m gonna swith to hydro / DWC I think! If you do it properly, you dont really need to. Since I go into using the Alien system, my run-off to the floor literally disappeared. You obviously do have a little splash here or there, but 3 grows in I can honestly say I just need 1 little towel for the tiniest amount of dripping when draining/filling.
It was far far FAR worse when I had pots and run-off trays/storage box...
Haha... :Sharing One:
Dont be shy about posting construction pics!! They're SUPER helpful and interesting ! I'm relocating my 6 potter to a new room that I'll be ghueto-geek retrofitting so as not cause any permanent damage to walls, ceiling, floor etc, I'd love to see some of your action and maybe borrow some preparation ideas!
BTW, CO2 lets you run the plants at significantly higher temps. In fact, IIRC, it is advisable to run 30ºC - 35ºC for peak production
OMG !! I had no idea this was SO cool !!

hmmmmmm.......this thread sucks.......I'm green with envy.........and it ain't gonna go away anytime soon, no sir!
I am getting geared up for my first grow.....in a past life I was involved with horticulture/Aquaculture, and I saw you are gonna use the Blue lab monitor........calibration and how often?.........any reference gadgets?..........I never saw a 225 quid or so kit that could really be trusted, and given the shear quality of everything else you have put into this........just wonder.......any experience with Blue lab and are you gonna rely on this exclusively?.......
I am just like you, better buy once and save in the long run.........and better safe than sorry.........which is the long run.........
Can't wait to see this setup kicking ass..........ahhhh, any thoughts on the new GN HS1 light that Maestro TaNg, and others, shows are putting all other light sources to shame........just saying......with this setup I would think you quickly will garner the status as most honoured customer by the local power supplier.......if they are aware of course!.......... and what about your carbon footprint man........a few more top notch growers like you and heating will no longer be required in latitudes below 75 N ......year round.......for millenniums like!
Again, cant wait to see.........hats off......what I want too.........in my daydreams.........someday!

What do you mean by 'any reference gadgets'?
Peace
:tiphat:For reference, I also have a BL Guardian. Love it to pieces, but good 'ol Tony is right as usual. If you have a trustworthy second unit to cross reference readings, you'll be better off. Having said this, I trust my BLG well above my other pens. Its only when figures go completely whack that I start worrying.
Sorry, that was my bad........shite wording.........what I meant was, as you say, another meter to x-reference. A RDWC is like growing all plants in the same pot........It doesn't bear thinking about......Any bad mojo striking.....like a few weeks before harvest.
Came across this, good write-up's on root rots http://www.420magazine.com/forums/how-grow-marijuana/72169-how-do-i-identify-prevent-root-rot.html and http://www.just4growers.com/stream/...truth-on-dissolved-oxygen-in-hydroponics.aspx
Notice this
Hydrogen Peroxide
Adding hydrogen peroxide is a common practice used by many hydroponic growers but is one that is seriously misunderstood. There are 2 forms of oxygen: O2, the diatomic form which can be absorbed by the plant roots, and O2-, the free radical form which is highly reactive. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) converts to H2O + O2- when added to water. The O2- that is formed is not desirable because it will indiscriminately oxidize or damage healthy living plant cells. Also, although adding hydrogen peroxide to a reservoir will result in an initial boost in DO levels, those gains are short lived. Hydrogen peroxide is best kept in a grower’s toolbox for cleaning equipment and treating bacterial and fungal infections.
