Harvest & Curing Drying in a brown bag

Thats Kind Tetra - But Uk and European folk really can get them for less than your postage.

It's just knowing "where" to get them.

UK - Most independant gorcery (fruit and veg) stores you can grab a few for free.

If you have to buy them - go to Tescos - they've got all sorts - and the slightly thicker ones (which i think are better for removing humidity). It will cost you about £1 for 20 and they're bigger than the gorcery store ones (which means less bags to shake lol)

Hope this helps some UKers find their brown bags lol

Primark bags are ideal nice thick double layer of paper

To bad someone would not design a huge ass one to bring down he humidity on 100% humidity days. I have 100 %humidity with rain falling for days. But in my tent with dehumidifier going it is 59%. in the winter I never went above 40%. As soon as the humidity drops so it will in my tent thanks for the rant

For my very first harvest, I tried the paper bag method and have to say that I am very pleased.

Harvest day, exactly 3 weeks ago today. I initially left the girls in a dark tent for 36-48 hours. I pulled a plant out and one at a time, I harvested. I cut all the buds off, trimmed major, non trich leaves off and cut the buds so nothing was much bigger than a golf ball. I then placed these buds in the bottom of a paper bag, rolled it up and put 2-3 of these bags into cardboard boxes and put into the tent with just a carbon scrubber on low and passive air intake. The humidity in the tent was typically about 40. ( I have really low humidity but I'll take that as an overall advantage.)

I left the bags in the tent for 5 days before I even checked them. Talk about patience! I was surprised that when I checked them that they were still moist. I imagined them to turn to dust if I looked at them but they were great. I left them for 2 more days before I placed them in jars. Once in the jars, I placed in a tiny hygrometer into each and set the lids on them but not all the way as I still allowed air to get in and out. I had one jar register 80 RH so back in a bag for one more day. Each day I would check them out, remove the buds from the jar, let them get air and put them back. After about a week, the RH was maintaining 62 so I then sealed them up with a boveda 62 and have been burping once a day and will do so for about another week then leave them alone. I have to say that when I checked them this morning, they are getting that wonderful sweet smell that we all love to have.

So far so good. I like the control in using this method. I also really like the very slow dry and cure.

I've used the brown paper bag method now for the last 3 grows and don't think I will use any other way now. The bags I use aren't massive, I place about 9oz wet in each bag with the top folded over a couple of times and hang the bag in my grow room. I open them each day and gently move the buds about in the bag so they are not all stuck together. After about 3-4 days they have reduced in size I then empty 1 bag into another, this way they don't dry out to fast. After 6-7 days I then place my buds in sealed jars for 24 hrs, this lets them all equalize from the inside out then burp them for a few more days until I'm happy they are dry but not dry as a bone, they are then stashed in a cool semi dark place under my bed. I have found doing it this way reduces the smell when drying but it also cuts out dry hay smell which normally appears after 2-3 weeks.

That's some great info on the paper bag method. Thanks a bunch! I'll give this one a try!

Good info blueey! I tend t`pick mine up at my local corner shop (They keep `em for their bread rolls and cakes/donuts etc. It`s my `local shop` run by Sri-Lankans and they just let me have 20-30 small bags...cos I`m buy a few `wife beaters` (Stella Artois for those who aren`t in the UK) and cos they are NICE FOLKS! (It pays t` be pleasent t` folks...)

I use the brown bag method, cures as it dries i rekon, definitely better for keeping and improving the smell of the product.

Yeah, I tryed it the way NW does it at the autoflower portal and it worked great.
The only difference is their fully trimmed and placed in the bottom of the bag right from harvest, fold the bag over a little at the top,put a paperclip to hold it shut and DONT open it for 4 days, then check in jars.
Worked good, no mold, nothing.
Doing that tomorrow again actually, chop chop bag.

I used to use the Brown Bag method, but I would only problem use them now to finish them off, as I've found hanging whole gives better smell and taste.

Yeah i used to hang too but this way my house dosent get smelled up and i found after about a week and i need to smoke some, the taste is pretty damn good already.
Strictly stealth here so this works better for me.
