Great yielder the starryder :)

Haaving said that about soil i've seen some guys do well using supermarket compost from Tesco and Tomorite nutrients !

It's not an exact science, botany, that's for sure !

Cheers,

Certainly some nice consistent fat nuggs you got there! Congrats!

Day 35 Northern Lights Big Bud cross. Day 49 Autoblueberries.

All is good in the steely hood! ABBs are drinking a litre or so every 4 days. Ph in is 6.8, Ph out is 6.4. Purrrrrfect :) As you may know i'm doing a calmag experiment. All of the ABBs are getting a calmag additive in addition to the dolomite lime that i mixed the soil with. Whereas the NLxBB has only the dolomite lime for the moment. If she starts showing calmag deficiency then i'll know to try doubling the dolomite lime in the soil for the next grow, and also preparing it a month ahead (which is now!) so that it gets time to integrate with all the goodies. I'll also look after her, of course, and give her some MagneCal+ additive like the ABBs I want to keep it organic and don't want to ahve to resort to non-organic additives. Some random shots before watering today, i'm not bothering with top and side shots anymore since it's all about the buds now, the growth is done (for the ABBs anyhow).

It's interesting to note that with one of the ABBs, i tied down the main cola and did it too much. This resulted in the main cola going from a good, thick stem to a fairly thin stem, but the other buds are really going strong, much more profuse than the plants where the main cola is still equal to the others. Maybe a trick to remember in future, sacrifice the main cola growth for lots of extra buds. I'll try and remember to take a photo next time but i've just put them all back in the box after watering and i'm DYING for a spliff so cba right now ;+} H A P P Y F R I D A Y :) steely x

The Northern Lights Big Bud cross is two weeks behind the ABBs.

As you may know i was running a small experiment.

All of the plants had dolomite lime mixed in the soil in order to combat calcium/magnesium deficiencies which are a problem with LED grows.

This definitely slowed down the calmag def but didn't halt it all together. All of the ABBs have been having MagneCal+ added to their feed, whereas the NLxBB has not.

The NLxBB was showing calmagdef (easier to write!) on the lower leaves, so i've removed them.

The dolomite lime definitely helped but i think i used too little (1tbsp per gallon) so i will double this next time. Experiment over!

Now it's sugar time!

Pics of trichs!!

Finally, the whole family in their box home.

This Prakasa 120W LED is definitely better than my old 250W CFL and uses less power.

The power draw on the old CFL was 190W, the power draw on this is 124W.

Also thei is very little heat, which will be great come summertime.

LEDs are definitely the way forward!

All the best,

Steely.

Its not just Led's that cause cal/mg i get it just as bad as all the Led growers do Nice job dude looking sweet, i can smell that bb smell from over here.

Plants look lovely mate. I think if you keep up the feed of CalMag, you shouldn't need the lime, I feed 2ml from start to finish and I don't seem to get a problem, your light cycle plays apart also, and I found my 12/12 girls last time were hardly effected. I believe TaNg has been doing 16/8 with no ill Cal/Mag effect.

Nice one Steely, what is a cost effective way of combating cal/mag def. What products can one use?

cheers, eP.

Cheers Briain, yes i think i may have had it in previous CFL grows but not recognised it as such.

Cheers Kip, yes really pleased with how they're going, thanks :) I'd rather keep it organic, hence the dolomite lime. I only bought the MagneCal coz i hadn't put enough lime in the soil and didn't want an unhealthy crop/poor harvest.

Interesting about the lighting schedule, thanks for info.

Thanks rubberfeet :) The dolomite lime cost me £2.40 for two kilos, plus £3.50 p&p so that's the most cost-effective, being cheaper than the chemicals. Plus it's organic so fits in with my preferred style.

Thanks all for stopping by,

steely.

Just been catching up on Briain's thread, where he has done some masterful LST :

https://www.autoflower.org/f5/dutch-passions-auto-white-widow-think-different-29407.html

and it made me realise i had totally forgotten to start bending my NL/BB cross!

So, thanks to the rubbery magic of biosilicon, i just bent the main cola 90 degrees in order to encourage the plant hormones to to hit the other flowering sites that recently appeared on her :

The fan and filter (that stuff in top left is expanding foam to fill gaps in wood which was badly cut at the shop) :

I put a crossbar in the box to support the filter, i may need to rejig this if i want to use larger pots and raise my lamp height :

There's enough of a gap so that air intake into the lamp isn't blocked :
