Old Reviews Does Lucas formula work first grow and want to keep it simple.

I was thinking of using the flora micro and the flora bloom with ro/di water. I have a system I use for reef fish tanks I will get water from. This is my first grow and I want it to be as simple as possible when it comes to fertilizing. With this water would I need to adjust ph and would I need any other fertilizers? Also what soil works good with this method?

My understanding was that lucas formula was for hydro applications, but I'm an organic soil guy so I could be talking out my rear. It's something I've been peeking at myself, wanted to give hempy buckets a try.

As far as PH goes you always need to ph a nute solution when you mix it up. Make sure to ph it after you add the nutes to the water, not before.

Thanks for reply. I was looking at that page and it looked like it said you only need to adjust ph if using tap water. Also don't want to do hydro on first grow. Thanks for help I am very new to growing and Alittle overwhelmed with info.

It works for most low-nute mediums...prolix is an example, also coco coir. The reason you shouldn't need to ph is because if you start with 0 ppm RO water and mix nutes in the prescribed ratios it should be REALLY close to target ph automatically based on the acidity of the GH nutes. If you use tap water, use the GH micro hard water formula and ph adjust as required. There are a bunch of threads on successful grows in peat based mixes on icmag.com.

Edit: I'm going to do an experiment right now and post in the indoor grow section. If I can follow the most basic formula using Deer Park Distilled water and get the pH somewhere close to 6, I'm going to do a Dinafem Haze 2.0 grow in a 2g dirt bag w/Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced. My TLO party cup plant was tits-up when I got home tonight so I threw her out, gonna get some good genetics germing tonight and I want to give this Lucas thing a whirl. Take a look in an hour or so, I'll post whether or not it works...

Hey there! Here are my 2 cents for what they are worth. Lucas works best in hydro as Mr Piggy stated. You can use it in soil, but expect a higher salt buildup that will require more frequent and thorough flushing. I used to use a variation of the GH 3-part system in outdoor soil photo plants with good results. However, I did not have the same success with indoor autoflowers using those nutes. When using the nutes in felt pots, I would always observe the bottom few inches of the pots turning white. I don't mean to shoot you down, but there are many other alternative out there that are easy to use. If it is your first grow as you say, then be sure to check out the new growers section. If you're looking for something simple: you should check out the beginners bio biz thread lots of great info for a simple nutrient system, using a much higher quality nute than GH.

There's a ton of info in there designed specifically for people just getting started out. There's also a couple of mods and a bunch of AFN designated new grower helpers in there. Muddy is head honcho and he's the kinda guy that can make complicated things real simple. He got me to come over here from ICmag a while back and helped me on my first auto grows.

If you want to keep it simple for your first grow I really recommend starting out in soil. It's more forgiving than hydro. They'll tell you all you need to know in there.
