Grow Mediums Do you use fabric pots with autopots?

The original xl bases are 10.5” roughly I think. That’s what the bottom of the big pots r. They have 10.4” round bottoms. So a 3 gallon bag will fit. I think my rain science bags r 10”. This is what I’m thinking of doing. Will also be using Megacrop and will be mixing 2gallons at a time then filtering as I pour into res. Hoping the system stays a little cleaner then some pics I’ve seen. Although V3 seems the most stable so far and really liking it.

The smartpot bases I think r 12” for the 5 gallon bag they come with. I could be wrong perhaps someone who runs them can chime in.

Thanks. The fabric pots I am looking at are like 9 inches wide. Do you think the round tray would be better for it than the regular tray? The round tray would likely have an inch or so around the outside where the 3 gallon fabric pot does not reach the sides of the tray. Do you think that would be a problem or would it be better to get the regular tray and put the round pot in the square tray in that regular tray on there?

The XL will be a better fit for a 9 inch bag. You could get the XL system with fabric pots and fold the bag down around the top edge to hold around 3 gal.

Thanks. The xl is the round tray the website uses for the 5 gallon fabric pots right? I would rather use my own fabric pots as they are much less expensive and I want to throw it away between grows instead of cleaning the pot out on there. Do you think that inch or so of open space around the pot in the tray would be a problem or would you cover that with hydroton or something like that on there?

I think what you are wanting to do will work but you may or may not be able to use the root sock properly. The root sock fits around the outside of your container or pot preventing roots from growing into the tray.

Thanks. Do you use that root sock? How long does it last for you? I think they have a round copper thing that you can use instead of the sock on there.
