So glad to see this! I was about to search and this thread popped up on the activity stream just around then
Will be cool to share notes. I will read the thread in detail in a few hours when I get home!!

Re: Strain/phenotype : Auto's are hybrids and crossed with Ruderalis from what I gather. So it cannot be pure Sativa characteristics. I did start a SuperSkunk (80% indica) and when they formed their first single leaves there was a distinct difference between the Skunk and Amnesia.
If you asked me years ago to look at the Amnesia I grow now - I would say it's 100% Indica. However when I see it now, I know its not Sativa, but wouldn't say it's Indica either

I have grown 100% pure landrace sativas. They have a very different phenotype. They grow extremely narrow, slender blades and much lighter green. I know this isn't a scientific explanation but where I'm from in the South you find Sativa's and it is sunny and warm with no real winter. Just summer and the monsoon and then a harvest/spring type season. In the North you have the mountains and snow. This is where you find hash producing Indica. I guess the Sativa's have smaller leaves and surface area as they have a lot of sun. The indicas are at high altitudes and need thicker fatter leaves to with stand the environment and also more surface area since there's less sun.
