I like Neem Oil, but sometimes it is not strong enough and it stinks, and it has an oily residue.
Have you tried Spinosad? I find it very effective against thrips, and the label says it works against Spider mites. For humans it seems to be one of the safest insect poisons. Definitely safer than pyrethrins from Chrysanthemum Flowers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinosad#Safety_and_ecotoxicology
"Spinosad has high efficacy, a broad insect pest spectrum, low mammalian toxicity, and a good environmental profile. Spinosad is regarded as natural products-based, and approved for use in organic agriculture by numerous national and international certifications"
Update: I have not used Spinosad, but the bug issue seems gone (for the moment). I am keeping an eye on things daily, but all seems ok. I'll feed tonight and get some better pictures, but here's a small update.
Right now, but look great. The plant being fed Roots looks more stout and thick, the GO plant is leggier! But both have tons of bud sites and really seem to be rocking along. My guess is that any differences at this point have more to do with plant and phenotypic variance than nutrients.
