I love all of this!! Fly fishing and stalking your next trophy dinner is one of my all time favorite pastimes.

You would have to be an absolute master at roll casting on that river. I used to realy enjoy flyfishing for bass and pike...tied many flies in my day! I cant do it anymore due to neck problems that it tends to agitate so i stick with spinning gear.

That's awesome. Only once in my life have i ever experienced any large bodies of water that have frozen up... Although not anywhere near thick enough for any half sane being to go out on. I think it was winter of 08, we had a week of 10F-15 F highs and -5F to -10F lows. Tried to get out to go duck hunting one of those mornings and there weren't any trucks parked at the boat ramp but there were tracks coming up out of the water where others busted the ice trying to get it. We figured we'd put in anyway and bash the ice ahead of us. The others that tried had about a 100 yard path cut through it. We got to the end and found out why... The ice got much thicker and the boat ran up on top of it, slid sideways and busted the prop. Lol. Left us with no choice but to get out over 65' of water on 3 or 4 inch ice to spin the boat back around and push it back in the water. First and only time I've ever stood on ice and was scared shitless

My favorite though has to be my favorite, though you have to like forest and lots of hiking though some rough country...picture this...we drive for 30 minutes and I say pull over and park right here bud! No river around...we walk a half mile and come to the river which is fast flowing around 2-3 feet in depths and crystal clear only 15-20 foot in width, which flows over basketball sized rocks...after walking through some trees the river splits and small pebble pools are formed and in some areas beaver dams "Oh hey!! Shhh right there bud!! DO you see it? Right there!!" as i point directly toward a nice 6 pound rainbow. Now all we have to do is stealth creep up to about 20 feet ahead of the fish and get the proper cast to swing and hang the mepps [HASHTAG]#4[/HASHTAG] spinner in the current so it sweeps in front of the rainbow trout, and it charges like a bulldog in full view. Intense and just incredible!!
Walk a few miles through some rough bush on that river and you come to this amazing waterfall.

That's beautiful and a great story too. I love it when you guys up north post pics like that. I spent 2 short weeks in Alaska when I was in the Army. Was on a fairly small island near Ketchican and I fell in love with it. My dreams are to retire somewhere up north

Yeah thin ice is not a good place to be!! People die around here every year...got to know the conditions and the season!! If you are on a snowmachine and you start to break through you throw that gas down as far as she goes!!

I am quite a ways south of trail in alaska(and a long ways east)

I've heard someone say that before... Seems to go against all instincts but stopping or slowing means sinking lol

Many of the snowmobiles these days are powerful enough they can drive across totally open water, so as long as you keep give it gas and stay balanced you can go across anything on them.(if you are crazy i mean....lol)
