I was wondering about soil recycling the other day. If a fella was to throw his old soil in a big tote like that after derooting it of course and he tossed old bananna peels and apple cores in it would that be advisable and what else could you throw in it to get it back in shape?
any fresh organic thrown in will take a long time to decomp!, gonna attract bugs and stuff you probably don't want in your grow environment. Finished compost can be used freely. Boost old soil and reuse

You could recycle the roots by chopping them up into smaller pieces, adding them back to the soil and apply an enzyme to break them down and return them as nutrients to the soil before you re-amend.I mean I really don't know what was in your soil, a small sample sent to Logan Labs would give you a much better idea..Ideally, I would add back what has been used for those plants to survive their lifespan in that soil..Did your plants fade hard toward the end,did your plants fade early, or were they super green and healthy all the way through harvest? Inoculates like Composts ( bacterial & fungal ), worm castings,Bokashi, and cow manure are good additions..Rock dusts, some granular organic foods ( organic of course ), egg shells, crab shell, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, Langbeinite, gypsum, bio char etc the list goes on..cover your N-P-K inputs, micronutrients and remineralize your soil..Add some life and let it go to work. Banana peels and apple cores personally, I would make a compost pile and throw them in there or a compost tumbler..Then use that compost as a soil addition or for teas, top dressings the like.
