Ok... since the CDC just released a late report and I'm going to cut and paste a bit of it below...

*adjust my tinfoil hat*

Corona mostly kills age 50+ right ?

Here is what the CDC just released about the regular plain yearly flu pertaining to the 0-49 age group :

"Laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated hospitalization rates for the overall U.S. population remain moderate compared to recent seasons, but rates for children 0-4 years and adults 18-49 years are now the highest CDC has on record for these age groups"

So.... regular 0-49... Corona 50+

Am I the only one with a weird gut feeling that something here isn't a natural occurrence ???

Did you close down one hole in the 2 holer to practice social distancing?

Disclaimer: I take this shite very seriously and hope everyone safely gets through this, but humour is my stress relief.

To promote social distancing I'm going to start cloning this week-end, between watering exisiting plants and 40-80 clones in little cups I'm thinking I won't be out of basement till May. Girlfriend is mad at me-check, Weed-check , PH down-check, Cloning gel-check, beer-check , supplies are good and lots of spices to hide the freezer burn on my 2year supply of meat.

As someone who falls into an "at risk" group, thank you for shedding a little light on this matter. If I catch this illness I WILL need a ventilator. The availability of one is critical to my survival. I am currently in 12 week self isolation for my own safety. Until we know more about the long term implications of this mystery illness we need to contain it and make sure it does not spread unchecked.

Pay attention to your govt. follow social distancing guidelines, wash your hands frequently and practice self-isolation if you show any symptoms.

My only saving grace for the time being is that I suffer severely from social anxiety; so self isolation and social distancing is my idea of heaven! Every cloud and all that!
Self isolation is your best bet if you know that you have significant pre-existing conditions. Doing this for even the next couple weeks will clarify what we are dealing with so you will feel more confident about decisions you need to make. Sadly, I expect that the seriousness of this emergency will become alarmingly more apparent over the next week or two. Statements by the US authorities last night warned about an extreme spike of cases coming in the US due to increased testing. I rate this announcement as partly honest, and partly intended to reduce panic in response to dramatic numbers. Of one thing I have little doubt - cases in the US are about to explode, and that will be due only partly to increased testing levels. The early fiasco with testing in the US is going to do some serious damage.

Good luck, I hope that you manage to avoid this bugger of a virus. :goodluck:

Humor at this point is good, really good. Especially when combined with rational behaviour to reduce risk. Keeping busy with something other than watching the news is also really good. Like tending to one's beautiful plants.

I highly recommend the TV series "Disjointed" starring Kathy Bates - it's on Netflix. My wife at times wonders what the heck I am watching because I am laughing so often.

Hey, relative to keeping busy, how about a "self isolation grow contest". Hell, if my dearest and I decide to stay isolated, I might even participate.

Whatever, stay safe peeps!

Just curious... what was this "early fiasco" with US testing that you mentioned ?

The only potential problems I saw here with early testing (and heard from relatives who are on the front lines of this) is that in a worst case scenario their hands could be tied entirely due to bureaucracy and red tape that had been put in place over the previous decades.

We had testing, what we didn't have was throughput at a rate that would be required for mass testing.

But... Now that the red tape has wisely been eliminated with a stroke of a pen....

I'm expecting US numbers to explode in roughly three weeks as the new automated testing gets rolled out across the country.

2 things that directly led to the problems being seen in Italy... they exceeded their bed space, and their average population age is among the oldest in the world by country.... oh, and they do like to smoke... a lot.

The US has roughly 400 million people inside its borders at any given time... yet we only have 924107 beds (not counting MASH units, hospital ships, etc.)

That is the whole idea behind flattening the curve... once you exceed bed space you are screwed and totally lose control.

Oh.... and the 2 hole thing... I keep forgetting to remove that as I never see it on my end... years ago I added that because I got tired of seeing the tapatalk banners that were in place back then....

And with that I will leave you with my uplifting thought of the day

So I see fake news isn't just a thing in the US...

Our tests at the very start of this were not flawed, they were accurate but they were slow as they could only be processed by the CDC thanks to red tape... A problem now eliminated.

They only tests that were refused for purchase consideration had a 48% false positive rate... which is why many countries were forced to test the same person over and over and over... thereby wasting valuable time, space, personnel, and also contributing to the panic.

But at that same time the US was buying more accurate tests from around the world to make up for any shortfall that may occur before our new automated test could be rolled out.... and that shortfall never even happened as they fast tracked the automated test.

The big one that started the whole fake story here in the US about not buying tests was an experimental test that was not even officially submitted for purchase consideration, but the company that had those dropped that story to one of our fake news outlets just to get their name out there and it spread.

I wonder if that may have led to similar stories elsewhere ?

Makes you wish we were doomsday preppers bet they all loving it in there bunkers with all them tined goods and toilet rolls, not so crazy now r they. If the power go's off any1 know how many potatoes it will take me to make a battery to run a 600w hps

N.Y. Times and Washington Post for the info, CDC website for the image.

Once you figure out potatoes per watt let me know... I need to convert it to mushrooms per watt
