Here are some useful and up to date resources and tips from Canna regarding growing with coco.

I take no credit for these, but found them useful :)

Do you rinse coco before potting up?

Coco watering guide tips

and again

Does Coco go bad?
Should i flush my coco?
Do I pre-water Coco in advance of potting??
You state no plain water. What if your running something like Mephisto genetics supersoil. I just watered my coco with plain water but my soil already has nutrients. Did I just screw up?

Think yohr fine dude.

Use enzymes during the final week or two of your current crop, and continue using them for the first two weeks of your new crop.

Remove the large chunks of roots before setting up your pots for the next grow as well. The enzymes will digest the dead root matter. They will also destroy any bennies that you are using as well, however. So don't use.then simultaneously, and reapply bennies after you discontinue the use of enzymes. Hygrozyme is good

Great info, blue.

Excuse me dude, but I don't think that is entirely correct. Enzymes and bacteria are perfectly symbiotic, when in balance they are the thriving rhizosphere, along with fungi and other microorganisms. The thing is that there are a bzillion type of each, and yeah, enzymes will digest dead matter. So huge amounts of bacteria that dies off will be consumed by enzymes, but I dont believe directly by competing enzymes. Enzymes will primarily digest roots.

It is not entirely necessary, but Cannazym can be run all along the cycle, I run it along my bennies with zero issue.

Yeah the cannazym is supposed to be used once a week in a feed as this promotes growth of micro nutrients and helps break down any dead matter that may be lurking around such as dead roots and so on, so basically the more dead material in the soil/coco the better the cannazym will work thus giving you a healthier plant.

I've noticed people are using smaller pots growing in coco. I have 15L (3 gal) air pots and I've always used soil but switching to coco now. An automatic feeding system will be used. will I be okay using the 15L pots or would I get better yeilds using smaller ones maybe 10L ?

I'm a newbie and I have always been told to stagger my feeds with plain ph'ed water...........is this wrong????

High There! :d5:

No need for confuzzlement buddy - When growing in soil - I guess that's not a bad idea - I've never done that, but some do!

With Coco - the plants get what you feed them (no nutes in there!) ... but that's not the reason for the emphasis on "don't give plain water" - The tips in this thread are a collaboration of all the interesting things i found on the Canna (brandname) Infopages on the web - kinda their "official" advice. They describe how to get the best out of their products and the one foccussed on here is "canna coco professional plus"

Canna claim that feeding with an EC below 0.8 ruins the buffers in their coco and can take 2 weeks to recover from this abuse.

Hope this helps the fuzzles

all the best

Hey @blue thanks for replying..........I'm using canna coco pro plus + perlite at the moment....I'm a newbie so I'm soaking up as much knowledge as I can lol....I don't have an ec meter at the moment.....I'm building my grow kit as fast as I can but some things are expensive as you probably know.....I have stuck with canna all the way...everything I use is canna apart from the cal-mag....didn't have canna in the hydro shop.....anyway.....I still am going to stagger my feeding for these plants...Will I get away with just cal-mag in the ph'ed water feeding?.......Thanks for the help

Hey @blue thanks for replying

No worries buddy, it's a pleasure to help when i can.

I don't have an ec meter at the moment

It's pretty essential for soiless growing - without it you're really taking a guess and possibly over feeding or underfeeding. Both with have a negative effect.
You can get a fairly inexpensive one that will do you proud. Essentials is a good entry level make that won't balls up your grow for you - don't trust the cheapo methers that you calibrate with a screw drive ... they will "screw" you over (lol - part time comdian)

Will I get away with just cal-mag in the ph'ed water feeding?

I very much doubt it. You'll need at least the base nutes (canna coco A&B) to give the plant what it needs.

Hope this helps

All the best

Thanks @blue ......mucho food for thought dude.......gonna have to change my watering practices to suit......my last soil grow is just about done(purple ryder auto)and the other 2 are in coco already(onyx auto+white widow auto)......can't believe I was starving them every other watering.....duuuh:face:.........Thanks for your help:pass:

P.S......nice one for the tip about EC meters dude........I know I need one I just have to get it soon as I can.....I did research into about our water system and quality from our supplier but I know that's not enough, it's top of my list now.....Thanks again dude
