New Grower Candy Cane Auto - Mega Crop - Promix HP

Day 14:

Right, so last time I fed the girls, I gave them 422PPM (or 2g/gal) at 5.8 PH. I watered the whole pot until a small amount of run-off.

I DID test the run-off, and it came in at 5.5 PH, which might explain the issue that I'm having, which I mention down below.

Temps are at 76-77F and RH is at 72-74%

Since then, new growth has increased and they are a much darker green than before. The stems are shedding and thickening up, which is a good sign and the leaves are strong.

I have transplanted and moved the solo cup girl out of the tent and into the living room where it will stay.

I will likely give them the same amount of MC next feeding but will raise the PH to perhaps 6.3.

That being said, the largest plant of the 2 in the tent is starting to get some sort of issue. I'm seeing deep dark rust spots starting to appear. It looks like it's gotten bigger since last night and I'm not sure if it's a PH lockout and have checked out all of the cannabis plant issue charts trying to match the issue with what's in the pictures in the charts, but I'm just not experienced enough to make a call. I'm hoping I can get some insight from the experienced growers here!

Here's the pics!

Here's the bigger plant with the issue that I can't identify. Looks like the spot has gotten bigger since I checked last night.

Day 19:

Well, I fed them about 4 days ago, at a PH of 6.3 and about 730 PPM of Mega Crop. While there was no burnt tips, I did start seeing some nitrogen clawing.

Once the pots were dry enough, I fed again, this time at a PH of 6.0, this time I pulled back on the Mega Crop a bit and fed 600 PPM. The clawing appears to have subsided.

Growth has exploded since posting my last update. Just looking at the pictures now, from my last post, and wow, I am really impressed with how much has grown in just 5 days.

I raised the lights to about 23" above canopy in an attempt to encourage a little more stretch. I'm honestly not sure if it'll work or help or if I'm now just robbing them of the amount of light that was helping them flourish. I'll monitor for a slow down in new growth.

I've also LST'd them and already have some side branching joining the canopy, the bounce back was about 24 hours, pretty impressive.

I've lowered the humidity to the 60-65% range, temperatures are a bit challenging to control in my garage. Heating isn't the issue, it's cooling. I have a dehumidifier in my garage and as we head deeper into fall/winter, it'll start turning on a little more which generates heat. Lately the temperature has been between 72-78F. It WILL drop a few more degrees over the next few months, but either way, I think it'll be fine. The plants are certainly doing well.

The plant that had the strange brown rust coloured spot on one leaf got worse. It started spreading on the leaf but no where else on the plant, so I cut off half of that one leaf blade and haven't seen any other signs of spread or progression anywhere. Just a weird anomaly I guess.

Anyways, here's some pictures of the healthy ladies.

How often do you water and what type of water do you use?

I water when the soils dry, not completely bone dry but mostly dry and I do the lift test. That said, probably every 3 to 4 days, sometimes 5.

My water is just city tap water, it comes in at 30 PPM pretty consistently and that's what I use after I use some air stones for 24 hours to evaporate anything that can be evaporated.

Coming along nicely! Our grows are close to the same with using both ProMix and MegaCrop with them being about the same age too. I just topped mine at day 21 yesterday and they are doing fairly well. I'm not going to LST the main trunk over but rather just try to control all the side branching.

I've also been pHing at 5.8-6 to test whether the soilless pH range turns out better. I've typically kept in the 6-6.5 pH range on past grows and always ran into issues and maybe that is why. They didn't tend to surface until late veg - early flower, so I guess only time will tell!

My last feed was on day 19, water has a base of 40-50ppm, I added about 100ppm CalMag as well as 1g/gallon Sweet Candy and 2g/gallon Megacrop. Final 525ppm/5.9pH. Might bump up to 2.5-3.0g/gallon on next feed, we'll see.

I'll keep an eye over here on your journal, should be interesting to compare methods and how things progress.

Day 33: Lots of updates!

Right then. Been a little behind in the updates due to work. This time of year is busy for me.

Following the last feed update, I bumped up the Mega Crop back to 750 PPM since they plants looked like they could handle it and continued to PH at 5.9 - 6.1.

The feeding following that, I've upped the Mega Crop to 850 PPM. I was actually aiming for 800 but added a bit too much MC. Anyways, I PH'd the solution to 6.0.

Temps have been at 76F and humidity at 55% RH

I have been noticing some small rust spots on the inner parts of the leaves, maybe even the very beginning signs of burn, but last time I saw something like that and it started to spread through a single leave finger, I just cut off the bit that was "infected" as I called it and it never came back.

That said, I might drop the Mega Crop back down to mid 700 PPM range again, but want to wait a bit longer to see if there's any further progression. Another sign that I might be a bit too high on the MC is the plant on the right is a wonderful dark green, but I think there might be some slight nitrogen related leaf clawing going on and the light might be a bit too close, I've been kind of letting them grow into it. But again, I want to see if there's any further negative progressions.

Aside from that, they are both doing very well, they've started to stretch, and have recently exploded in growth.

I've continued to maintain LSTing and the plants have reacted well. The one on the left has filled out a bunch more however it's still much smaller than the one on the right, which is doing very well and really bushy with plenty of tops.

I AM thinking of defoliating though. The canopy on both plants is actually pretty thick and blocking a lot of light from getting to lower bud sites. Just not sure when the right time to defoliate Auto Flowers is. I've read it's best during pre-flower, which is what stage they're in now it appears. So I might do it a little later this evening.

Anyways, let me know if you folks have any suggestions or feedback. Cheers!

The funny thing about LSTing is, at least on these plants, the lowest branches are the tallest and strongest
IMG_20191110_115043.jpg

Thick canopy, thinking they really need to be defoliated, especially the one on the right

This fucking issue... Not sure if it's a Cal/Mag thing or if I'm pushing too hard with the PPMs

Thick bonzai

LSTing is too easy

Hey bro! Yeah super similar grows. I've been looking into topping autos but haven't got the balls just yet. After a couple of failed grows, I want to get some good weight in the jars before I start experimenting. I want at least enough to last me 2 grows. 1 for just in case I fuck up the experiment and the second because if I fuck up the first one, I'll have to wait for the second grow and make up for the loss of the last one.

So far PHing 5.9-6.1 has been working out quite well for me. But my plants are only in pre-flower right now and like you, most of my issues start happening at this time and funny enough, I just made a journal update mentioning that I'm starting to see the beginning of issues, lol!!! BUT I've seen these very same issues a few times now during this grow and it doesn't seem to lead to anywhere, as in, it just kinda stops or goes away, so it could simply be plants just being plants, the cannabis grower in me says it's an issue though, hahaha.

I've certainly been considering adding a little calmag in the next feeding though but really want to believe that Mega Crop is an all in one and doesn't need any calmag added, which is why I've been and still am, stubbornly holding out.

girls are blowing up @BCBUDY !

no shame in using calmag with MG! lots of journals running MG solo has been running into calmag issues during week 4 - week 5.

Hiya @thedailydose thanks! Yeah I think I might just do that. I'm thinking maybe dropping the MC to about 650 PPM and adding in some calgmag, next time I feed.

Looks great! I had a couple on my last grow that had the bottom shoots taller than the top of the plant after LST.
Im starting next week an FFOF and MC grow. Cant wait to see how the MC works. I'm just going to follow their directions and see how it goes.
