Pro Mix and Sunshine Mix are two that come to mind that are sold nationally. Basically what you are looking for is something comprised of at least sphagnum peat moss, perlite and lime. Some mixes have other amendments such as manure, worm castings or guano. Those are not good for starting seedlings but great once the seedlings are well established.

Awesome...thanks for the detailed info:toke:

right on w/ miracle gro moisture control

I use MG Moisture control and have had now for a couple of years with really good results but you have to know how to use it. I'm very careful about adding anything to the soil because you can get things screwed up pretty easily. Mostly I'll fertilize through the foliage. I mix it with lime and perolite and it has been working for me and just starting a new grow with it.

MG Moisture control in 3 gallon wastebaskets (perforate bottom 8 times w/ power drill and large wood bit) has been working well for me - (1) use new MG MC for sprouting and first month; (2) after about a month under bright light with co2, then I started using kelp extract and MG fert (both foliar feeding and cehmicals mixed in water) until time to sex then (3) keep using kelp but switched to Peters bloom fert.

90% of the plants, both photo and autos, are very nice and big and healthy.

From now on, I'm only going to use feminized autos in 3 gallon pots - it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy - but yeah, it's fucking expensive to get the seeds)..
