I am not sure what arguments you saw, but don't listen to those at all. Ask any of the badass growers here and they will say that ph is number one. It's the first thing that they'll ask you when you're having problems. Trust me, ph is at the top of your list. Do you have a way to test ph at all?

I grow in raised beds. They are kind of like big pots where the plants only have to deal with each other. I keep them weeded well and get good results. It is very popular here locally. One of the big reasons is outside plants in large pots are much higher up and are noticeable above the weeds and then your stealth goes into the crapper. I don't grow big photo plants I try to stick to the moderate sized ones and the raised beds keep them low. I would never stick a ten gallon pot outside they are almost three feet high and makes the plants way to tall.

i would think that either way once you have a problem you will worry about ph or atleast should check so best to keep an eye on it from the start. with organics i hear its not a big deal compared to chem nutes.

Why wait for a problem to appear. Get the pH right from the start. It is true for organics for chemicals and indoors and outdoors and with photos and autos. Just make a decision to get a pH meter right from the start. Why fight it even cheap skates like me use our meters all the time.

Right. Well that works for plain clear water feeds but nothing else. I really say get a good meter before you even start.

i'll have to check my local shops. Do you reckon they are all in the $70 range?

I will be going tomorrow to look at PH meters while i'm buying soil. Basically I want to keep the soil ph and water ph at 6.5-6.8 correct?

You may be able to find one around $50, but yes for a good one it'll be around that price. You get what you pay for so I wouldn't skimp on that. I know how it is though not having the money to get what you need, believe me. I just know that the one I posted a link too is the one that Muddy uses and he likes it. I don't have one, but I will be getting one asap.
