Temp: 21 C
RH: 60%

When I started drying two weeks ago it was warmer and higher humidity. Didn't have anything to measure actual values thought. In two weeks in the closed, stems were not even close to snapping. When the leaves I had left on started getting crispy I figured the buds should go in a jar.

I finally picked up a hygrometer thingy and found that the RH in the curing jar was 63%. Ileft the hygrometer in the jar for 18 hours before checking.

The RH was 50% two days ago, but today I'm getting 60%. Given that this is the target bud moisture level, it does not make sense to me to keep the jar closed. Heck, maybe I should not even have my bud in a jar right now.

Your thoughts?

You need air exchange for curing. Let the old stale air out and new air in for a few mins. You can control how much humidity you let out but how long you keep the jar open.

Once jarred, I burp once a day for about a week maybe a little longer, then every couple days, then every few. It can take quite a while working out that deep moisture. 3 to 4 weeks till it stabilizes entirely.
Or, toss in a bovida pack!

Well, a funny thing happened the day after I posted here last. The RH dropped to 45%. I wasn't really paying attention, so a couple of days went by before I thought to measure my room. I closed the jars, waited a day and then measured RH in each jar: 53% and 54%. Oops, overshot the dry.

I put both jars into a large storage container with a bowl of water and the RH inside the container went up to 85% within a an hour. I left the two jars in there for about 10 hours and then sealed again. Their RH seems to be back up to 62ish%.

This seems like a very simple low tech way to manage humidity long term. At least for us jarheads that are too cheap to buy them fancy groovy bags.

Man O Green. How many uses do you get out of those bags? I hate spending money on bits of plastic you have to throw away after a use or three. If they will last for years, I might spring for a few. If not, I don't grow enough that burping and re-humidifying jars will be much of a burden.

That is not too dry, and may well be in the optimal range for vaporizing. But smoke from combustion, inhaling at a higher temperature, may need more water vapor to go down 'smooth.' Boveda sells 58% RH packs. At current 53-54% it's very easy to add vs. remove water in the buds.

I've seen a few different numbers quoted for rh now. If it's up at 62 now, it will probably slowly go back down over the next month or so.

I think the 4oz will be able to seal 3 times. I am lazy and burping jars is easy to forget. I have never had better cured bud than with the Grove Bags and I put it in too wet. It is all documented in the test thread.

Ps. 62% is just right for pressing your bud into rosin.

So, 62% for rosen, 58ish for smoke, 54% for vaping. Now I know.

I'm gonna pass on the bags. Too much plastic floating around this planet already. I've spent the last couple of years weaning myself off of plastic as much as possible. Those burpie jars will last for years.
