Bomb Seeds Bomb Seeds - Berry Bomb

WEEK 14: Update

another solid week. Buds are building on Berry Bomb 1 and I just spotted her first blue-ish calyx tip, not that it's indicative of anything but how cold it is here. Berry Bomb 2 is fattening up and frosty AF!

Candy Cane is a beautiful monster. I'm MUCH happier with this plant than the 2 from the summer. I hope the smoke is equally better.

The blue dreams are doing well too. BD2 is getting fat and I think I'm gonna be starting to flush her as soon as next week. BD1 has become my tallest girl and she's putting on weight! I'm so pumped.

@budelee @Duggy
I have learned so much these past couple of coco runs. I've been giving the girls the prescribed amount of Cali-max the whole time here but I don't know that it's necessary, in fact I think that it's been causing me to have to pH down more than I would otherwise have to. I've just started reading about CEC and buffering and realizing that I've been misunderstanding the whole damn thing!

Are there any experienced and knowledgeable coco growers around who'd like to chat coco feeding and best practices? These are the first I've ever run in re-used coco and it's been a good start but I've found a ton of things that I did wrong and have contributed (or directly caused) this grow to stall out and take WAY longer than expected. I honestly figured that I'd be flushing already. My [HASHTAG]#1s[/HASHTAG] are both nowhere near done. Candy Cane is getting close to flush ready but she's also 2 weeks younger. The [HASHTAG]#2s[/HASHTAG] I may start flushing next week, at least the Blue Dream - she's already showing some amber trichs and I'm expecting these 2 little blueberry looking expressions to be more indica slanting on the smoke too.

Thanks for following along folks.

When I was in to feed tonight I noticed nanners on BD#2, the Blue Dream that I was ready to hit with the ripening agent and then flush. How concerned should I be about this? Will it put out pollen as soon as they're visible? Is it relatively common for Autos to throw nanners at the end of their life? Did I let it go for too long? Am I running a risk of the others having these sorts of complications since they're not as matured but the same age? I started with the dry koolbloom on Sunday, is it possible for the ripening agent to send too much of a signal to finish that it hermies in an attempt to continue its genes?

They don't come through very well in the pics but there are a couple of pictures with a nanner in it.
The Blue Dream has a lot of newer growth at the base. It almost looks like the foxtailing reveg type growth I've seen pics and heard of in forums. I had the same thing happen to my last northern lights. I don't know that it was bad smoke but it certainly doesn't look too pleasing.

Has anyone else seen this kind of growth? Any input on the cause and how I can avoid it in the future?

Blue Dream [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG]: you can see the main colas are all nice and purpley and mature but in the base there are a LOT of new white hairs.

Can you spot the stamen (nanners) in these 2 pics?

Top nug looks beautiful. Can't wait to smoke it.

Beautifully frosted Berry Bomb [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG]. Not the same production as her sister but I'm expecting it to be great smoke.

Same plant. I think this lighter green spot is going to throw a nanner soon. Just a hunch.

I've basically got everything finishing now. I'll let the [HASHTAG]#2s[/HASHTAG] and the candy cane go a little longer, without feeding. They've fattened up significantly and are starting to put off more smell than my tents can contain :)

Here are the girls not in the last post. I did a little defoliating after these pics. Berry Bomb 1 was a shaggy bitch and the candy cane is quite leafy as well but she smells sooooo good. Are you familiar with that tangerine smelling AK pheno (maybe all AK smells like that?) that's what this candy cane smells like. The other two have plenty of sweet berry smell starting to come out too. It's gonna be a good spring.

I've rinsed all plants a few times over and they're all finishing now. I'll keep feeding them the CAliMAgic/Hygrozyme water til they're ready for the chop.

I'm noticing that the girls aren't taking up as much water as they have been for the past while. I've heard that when an Auto reaches the end of its life, it'll stop feeding and drinking. Can anyone confirm this? I was kinda expecting to start getting some fade out happening but everything still looks fairly lush and healthy (aside from the tall ass blue dream complaining about the lack of CA).

Looks great! Yes, they slow down on drinking at the end. The calimagic can keep them green if there are enough nutes in it. How many days? What do the trichs look like?

There are a lot of coco growers here. One is @Nicker32 , not sure if he is growing right now. He was taking a break.

trichs have begun turning amber. I'm not a huge fan of couch lock, not always anyway, so I like to keep em closer to cloudy and they're there :)

I've been advised to never use straight water in coco in the finishing cycle. I think it's because it would supposedly ruin the buffer in the coco? I was also advised to keep the enzymes and humic acid in the watering to help the plant take up any remaining nutrients in the medium. Some of this makes sense to me and some does not because coco is inert so it doesn't necessarily hold nutrients but since I never let it dry, it stands to reason that there would still be something left in the medium that isn't buffering the coco. I think I may have some salt build-up as well, not a terrible amount I don't think, so I was kinda suspecting that would be usable to the plant but I don't know if that would really be the case. The build up would likely be carbonate from my water I think. I've been really reading too much on the subject of coco and sometimes I think I'm confusing myself more than helping.

At the end of the day I just want my plants to finish well and clean and by clean I mean not have a bunch of shit left in the buds that are going to adversely affect the flavor and quality of the final product.

I'll get the pics for this week in a few hours once the kids are gone to bed.

Week 16!

As I've already stated, these are all in their finishing cycle now. There are a number of reasons for this, they've been going longer than planned after getting started later than planned so I'm WAY behind schedule now. BD2 and BB2 area both throwing nanners, BD2 more so by a long shot; I plucked 4 more tonight and it wasn't all of 'em. They're all basically rocking completely cloudy trichs except perhaps for BB1 which is behind and still growing so I may keep it in there a little longer but it'll be getting some 12/12 treatment if that's the case cuz I've got photos ready to go in there.

BD1 is a beast and it's showing a lot of calcium deficiency in the upper leaves still despite getting specifically extra CAliMAgic in each feeding. It's swollen plenty in the past couple weeks so I think it's fine. The smell has really dropped off from her lately, not sure what that means.

Candy Cane is a monster. I was saying that she smelled like tangerines but I was mistaking that smell, it was grapefruit I was thinking of but today I got some good stiffs in on her and she has morphed some and smells more like pineapple and grapefruit juice mixed together with vodka the way my mom always makes slush in the summertime :D In the Candy Cane pics, there's one of me holding a Coke can next to the far right nug because I thought it'd be a cool comparison kind of a shot but holding a can at an accurate distance while holding a dslr and trying to focus/zoom proved to be trickier than anticipated so the best of the shots is the one I'm including here. After looking at the other full plant shot, I realize I REALLY should have held the can up to the biggest top on there to show off its girth. It seems like that branch I had to euthanize resulted in extra production going to that remaining 1/3 of the "mains". It has made for a hell of a nug. I might even be able to submit it into a February contest. We'll see.

All across the board, the frost has been fairly thick. Probably not the thickest you've ever seen but probably the frostiest nuggetry I've produced. I credit the dryness.

Alright boys and girls, here are your pics for this week.
